Kegworth hmm,
well a bar maid who didn't know how to change barrels (at least they didn't run out!) and overpriced food à la ping (remember that pizza) but agree access, lift, car park etc. and a decent Indian within walking distance.
It seems that it was however insolvent going into lockdown and I suspect Oyo got a bargain (as Ritesh Agarwal has done many times)
Not complaining all venues are great, there's just pros and cons wherever you go. I'm happy and very thankful for any show and the guys who arrange and make it happen. Would be nice to have that regular venue though who understands our very special needs :)

going back in time, to the very first wam show (or months before it, we gave brief thought to using a School during the holiday period, and in particular, using a large independent school, because:

They are located all over the country, nearly always in or close to a decent sized town and train station
They are quite empty during the holidays
they have limitless car parking
they have a canteen whose staff will doubtless be ok coming in for a day or two
they are often housed in huge old buildings with both large rooms and small, but solid walled
They will cost less than a hotel
they are keen to be used
they wont be shabby
there will be caretaking staff on hand to help move furniture and prepare stuff
schoolroom carpets are used to hard knocks

and etc etc.

Pick a town central in the UK. Find the nearest School. Phone the bursar and ask.
with ref to this here, for example:

must be worth a phone call????

as would a good pop up food van or three. Parking for 100 cars, accomodation, and they cater as you want. Curry night??
The posthones are best avoided, but places like this are great.

I suspect there would be serious issues with insurance and provision of facilities at a 'borrowed' school. Things like pop-up bars may well not be allowed, bringing in electrical equipment that in most cases willl not have up-to-date PAT may also be an issue. Schools and any local authority premises are going to have their own set of rules.

Overall though, the 'no rooms with en-suite' is likely to be the nail in the coffin. The wam event is a lot of 'acceptable inconvenience' for exhibitors, but there is a threshold to the removal of comforts that this would probably cross for many.
