I had a Macau Blue E30 M3 Cecotto and foolishly sold it because the mrs didnt like lhd !.  Not selling the e46. Ive put a few CSL bits on it but Ive kept all the  original parts so it could go back to standard.
I still miss my E92 M3 that spilled it's guts on the autobahn (it threw a conrod at around 140mph and made a hole in the block). It had primary cat delete with an Evolve X-Pipe, Eisenmann race exhaust, full Evolve tune, and Rays Racing wheels - loved it and created some wonderful memories with it.

A wonderful engine (until it wasn't) and did everything well (we got my girlfriend's Audi estate delivered from Czech and emptied everything out of the boot and we could barely fit it all in the back of her car).  Then again, hitting a rock and doing the DCT resulted in a £14K bill - fortunately the insurance covered it after arguments about writing it off).

I still think the E46 looks good - it's aged really well.

Ah bad luck, probably the notorious rod bearings. I had them done out of OCD (they came out near perfect !) and the man that did it. Phil Crouch at CPC said that a customer with an E92 on his way to have them done by him had them fail on the motorway just before he got there !  I wonder why BMW designed in a definite weak point in the E36/E46 M3 sixes, the V8 and the V10 which all seem to have this problem.

Love the sound of the V8's and the V10's.

Unfortunately I found out about this well-known issue after or I would have definitely done what you did.

Its the benefit of forums like this one where you can get good advice. In the car case it was M3cutters.co.uk where the bearing issue surfaced. Mind you, you also get similar endless threads like cable ones. "The best oil to use" comes to mind

I'm a member there but hadn't seen this until I looked for it.  :(

OP - has your new baby arrived yet?
Been a while between posts - had a few personal challenges (nuff said..). but yes i got the Yaris last May.

In short, whilst being far from perfect as an everyday car, it is without doubt the best road car I have ever driven in UK, in terms of driving fun, and out right pace on our bumpy damp roads.

Took it on its maiden trip to Ireland for a wedding last June.

edit. Pics too large - will revisit when i hav time to resize etc

What's it like over speed humps and potholes? Only asking because a few years ago bought a BMW 1 series with a lowered suspension. Off with the traction control, cornered brilliantly. Went to Asda in it and scraped the underside of the front spoiler on the kerb in the car park. A couple more incidents like that and the car had to go and it did. Now got BMW a 4 series Gran Coupe, lovely car, still miss the cornering ability of the 1 series.
Watch out for humped back bridges as well. I remember photographing a bridge in Yorkshire dales, when a car came over and scraped the underside of the car. Had a Yaris in Iceland, pity it was not this version, the boot was tiny. Had to replace halfway round due a warning light coming on. A lot of the roads were dirt/gravel.

It rides (unfashionably) quite high with longish suspension travel to keep contacts with road. It’s such a weapon over bumps n bridges. I am an averagely skilled driver, but this thing just carries the speed, meaning you can stay in legal limit and have great fun. Or let rip. The only things in common with cooking Yaris are front and rear lights plus infotainment, apparently.

That’s been my only mod to date stock ice was pretty poor, so had this lot as upgrade, and have to say am very pleased with the DSP and the Focals and the sound deadening in doors. sub is bit meh, but not needed for my listening.
