A long-tailed tit which looks like it has some moss in its beak to take back to the nest.

I’ve been pleasantly surprised this week to find a couple of Long-tailed tits have taken up residence in my garden. They look quite young, as if they’ve been born locally. I’ve never seen them before in my garden in the 30+ years I’ve lived here. The great part is they keep feeding on insects on my collection of Acers, immediately outside my conservatory patio doors, so I get a good close up view of them, every day. That's nice. They are beautiful little birds.

We've had them around this time of year for a few years running now. See them most days, as they pick the insects off the small apple tree right outside the kitchen window. Funny thing with them is that they seem totally unbothered about us being there. They perch on the windowsill a few feet from me when I'm making coffee in the morning and don't seem to care.

They are very approachable. Great for photographing :)

Thanks Tony. It's the first one I've photographed for a long time. It was checking out a dead collared dove laying on a railway line.
They are lovely flyers. They don't venture onto the island very often but they are spreading further north, so fingers crossed. We do have Hen Harriers though - fabulous to watch.

I think I'd swap some of our red kites for hen harriers! I've only ever seen them on the TV.
