I haven't used the Beyer amp but I've got 2 pairs of Beyer DT880 Edition 600 Ohms which should pair nicely with them I'm sure I could let one go, barely used in the box with the carry case say £80 plus postage.

I found them to have a very balanced sound compared to others (eg more natural than the V shaped curve on the DT990s) and they scale up really well.

I had the 424s many years ago and liked them but realised they were quite bright and lacking in bass when I tried some others.
I never thought about the Beyer DT 880 600 Ohms, would be quite a difference as the 424’s are 2000 Ohms and the A20 drive’s them with ease. I’ll have a think about them.

I forgot how high the 424s were I don't think anything like that is made anymore (except maybe Canford studio versions if they're still around). The impedance doesn't make much difference to the sound with a decent mains powered headphone amp, the voicing of the headphones is the main difference.

Two versions of the 424 were made, one at 2000 ohms ( my version ), and the other 600 ohms. As many headphone amps are designed to drive up to 600 ohms I sure there would be a noticeable difference.

I'm not sure I get you are you saying you only want another 2000 ohm pair of headphones as I'm not sure there are many around.

I definitely want more modern cans, I doubt there are many using 2000 ohms these days.

I have ended up with the Beyerdynamic A20 amp and Beyerdynamic 900 pro x headphones.

I don’t think it’s a fair to compare the Sennheiser HD424 to the Beyerdynamic 900 as the 424’s are over 30 years old.

The combination works well for me with the new amp and phones, to my ears it’s a really good combination.

Bought so AKG Y500 on eBay i was expecting second hand headphones as i paid £29. What arrived? Brand new headphones minus the box and the user guide and remote control. Wonder how these got out there box in the first place. They were sealed. how do they sound. superb Fantastic even

Pro sound fantastic (with my Android phone)
cons: only if you gently touch the left hand side everything stops. its a bit bewildering whats happening at first. But once you read up the user guide on line you soon figure it out

five stars
