pipe and slipper, how about a old sony receiver with the record deck built in , i di d a music course , diploma in 1980 s approx the main system for playing records, etc, very basic sony cheap brown speakers, playing stevie wonder songs and weather report disks, we had a ball, played it quiet loud as well in a good sized teaching room, school room, .

I think I have finally ended up with a Pipe and Slippers set up. From my Thorens TD160 in the 70’s which involved getting up every 20 mins to flip a record, to my CD players of the 80’s and 90’s that still involved getting up to change discs every hour or so, to where I am today. Having recently ditched various boxes and interconnects I now have a one box streaming system and a Qobuz subscription. I have swapped the pipe for single malt and my slippers last so much longer, now I don’t have to walk about as much. To me, this is a pipe and slippers setup, one box, nothing to tweak, just sit back and enjoy the music.

The reason why guys need a pipe n slippers is cos they’ve been tweaking the sondek since they got back from walking the Jack Russell round the local playground At 6am After 9 hours balancing the suspension and trying to make the K18 sound less like a cats claws down a blackboard, they open a fresh pack of Amber Leaf and stuff the pipe full. Popping the lid off an Aldi home brand whiskey they put on a well worn copy of Brothers in Arms and kick back in a chinese made eames chair and let Mark Knopfler strum away whilst playing air guitar for the next 60 mins or so. feet snug and warm in brown corduroy slippers. Bliss.
