The Far Out label is repressing this excellent piece of Brazilian jazz funk originally from 1979. If you're a fan of Azymuth then this is definitely worth a check. The vibe of the LP is very much a Brazilian version of Donald Byrd's "Places And Spaces" imo.

One of my favourite UK labels Mr Bongo has kicked off a "Cuban Classics Series" and the second instalment dropping early next year (24th Jan) is this sublime piece of afro-Cuban jazz from Grupo Irakere. Originally released in 1976 and contains the monster jazz-dance tune "Chekere Son".

I used to play bass with guitarist Terry Smith's band in the 70s and i came across this on YT. It reminded just what a fine guitarist he was. He used to gamble a lot on the horses....

Better known for their excellent output of World music, particularly that from Brazil, Mr Bongo is embarking on a reissue of the back catalogue from the Groove Merchant label.

They're kicking off on 23/2/24 with the excellent LP "Simba" from O'Donel Levy which is worth having for the track "Bad, Bad Simba" alone. If you like the funkier offerings from Grant Green crossed with the big band, cinematic stylings of Lalo Schifrin then this could be for you.

First time vinyl reissue on the Craft label since the 1973 original and due out on 16/2/24 is this excellent soul jazz LP "People & Love" from vibesman Johnny Lytle. Contains the excellent "Tawhid" and a great cover version of The Stylistics' "People Make The World Go Round".

Fans of Roy Ayers and Bobby Hutcherson may wish to investigate.🧐

Mastered from the original tapes by Kevin Gray and pressed on 180gm vinyl at RTI so sound quality should be top notch.

The excellent Jazz Room Records, a jazz-only label owned by jazz DJ Paul Murphy, is having a Bandcamp sale of a selection of previously released LPs priced at £15 post free and some at £10.

One of my favourite jazz reissue labels and UK based.

I just love Freddy Hubbard. Saw him live in Oslo in the early 80s. Never tire of his playing like I do with Miles Davis who I find exceptionally boring. I did a few gigs with the drummer, Clifford Jarvis when he lived in Oslo. No idea how he ended up in Norway. Fine player.

A couple of corkers coming out in the near future from the excellent Be With label so you can be sure mastering and pressing quality will be top notch.

Recorded in Tokyo in 1979 by Herbie Hancock and an all-star band. This LP, only ever released in Japan, contains some excellent cover versions of Herbie's own previous compositions with Ms Kasai on vocal duties. My personal faves - "I Thought It Was You" and" Butterfly".

More a mix of funky folk and rocky jazz so this release may have a far wider appeal than just the jazz heads. I included it in this thread because it contains the sublime "I Can't Keep From Crying Sometimes" - one of my all time favourites.

Incredible track! Have got the jazzman 45, which gets regular plays out.
