Hi all

My MF encore is producing no sound from the right channel , I have shut it down , swapped the loudspeaker cables over – left to right , and sound came from the right speaker but not the left, so I am certain that it is the amp not the speakers.

Looking through the grill at the top I can see the two amps and their fuses , it’s a bit difficult to see but it does look like the fuse on the right channel has blown.

Advice please

  • Fuses can blow randomly but sometimes there is an underlying fault that caused it – any ideas ?
  • Is it a user serviceable replacement?
  • If not could it go to a local hifi shop for a fix rather than sending back to the main distributor – Henley , I have not used them for repairs but they have provided good support in the past , I have nothing against them , just the additional time and effort if I cannot “go local”.
  • Any other bright ideas – I was pondering a JS audio fettle later this year – should I just bring that forward?

My a300 blew a fuse once on right channel. I replaced it, never happened again. I’m not familiar with the newer mf circuit designs. Try it if it does it again take it to the shop or a local repairer.

Just a note of caution: if you weren;t aware, capcitors can hold their charge for some while after turn off. If you're not confident in opening up and working on amps then best left to a pro. Fuse replacement could be a simple diy fix, but it pays to be cautious.

Hi all

Just for info , my local hifi specialist said " open it up and replace the fuse, if it works sleep soundly , if not bring it in ".

Well I left the system off for 48 hrs and then opened it up , both of the right channel fuses have blown , but I am having difficulty confirming the correct replacement - I have looked at the RS site and there appear to be a number of similar T8 fuses - any ideas ?

Thanks

If no other markings on fuse end caps i.e. 250v/5A. Pop into the hifi dealer with the fuse, tell him too many to choose from, so which specific ones should you get.

Bearing in mind that I know nothing about this sort of thing, two fuses blowing indicates to me that there is probably an underlying fault that needs sorting.

Hi , I have had the encore for 5 years , it’s a feb 17 manufacture. It was working fine on Thursday 14th Apr and Friday 15th , I Put it into standby (sleep) mode and when I started it on Sunday 17th there was no sound from the right channel.

Let’s hope the replacement fuse fixes it. I plan to change the two fuses and leave it on standby for 24 /48 hrs and then listen to some music .

Fingers crossed.

I’d put them in and get it going while your there. If there is an issue an overnight standby hooked up to speakers😬😬😬

I never have power going to my system unless I’m there anyway.

It could have been a power surge or something. I had a fuse blow in my central heating control when Inwas away on holiday, got home and the house was freezing cold, as it was minus 4 outside in the evening. Anyway replaced the fuse and never had a problem since and that was over 15 years ago. Obviously if the new fuses blow there is an issue that needs sorting.
