As my old mom used to say... If you have nothing nice or constructive to say. ... Say nothing.

Just smile, be polite, ask questions about anything and bring with you some classic hifi show tracks and everyone will know ;-)

We have just lost a man who gave of his own time to moderate, and bring the voice of reason, to some of our more extreme contributions.

Next time you come up with a post that makes you feel BIG and clever, by making a noob feel small, before hitting the enter button...

think how John might have dealt with it*

Indeed, a great way to honour his legacy. In this case we can bring a new meaning to the acronym WWJD that I think John would smile at:)

Damn good point.

WWJHD?

What would John have done?

Makes you just stop.

And actually THINK before posting.

And a most fitting tribute to the man.

A very dear friend and former-colleague in moments of exasperation with me, used to say "You know PJ, you don't have to be a c*nt EVERY day - have a day-off sometimes".

when is this day likely to happen pal?

Most Wammers I know up north, a few down South too, are not so much Old Guard as fully paid up members of the Crack Brigade. Happy to demonstrate membership credentials at Scalford to any noob who thinks they have what it takes:)

Is that Crack as in plumbers', or Crack as in narcotics?

S.

I feel your pain bro. I'm sure the wam goat herd can sort you some stress relief.

Wanna buy some cables? I got no use for them now I've been outed. Some guy reckons they improve ur life and make u a babe magnet.

Sorry, I am a lost and lonely goat when it comes to cables - I firmly believe cables change the sound, BUT I prefer the ones most people throw away to any aftermarket cable I tried in my system! I also believe op-amps sound better than valves for line level use, CD is better than vinyl, most toroidal transformers are unsuitable for audio and lot's of other stuff that means I am not even welcome on the lunatic fringes of the lunatic fringe that is the Wam.

Super Wammer

As I almost said earlier in response to James' opener to this thread (until my playful side got the better of me) I DO think that is the perfect thread, done at a perfect time. I dare say that one or two of you saw some recent, lively threads that I was involved in . Despite being a member on here for just over 4 years and having almost 2000 posts, I have never been to a bakeoff, nor had I previously been involved in such heated debates on here, let alone being the centre of them. So in a sense, I could still be regarded as a newbie or perhaps a virgin :D. Not having socialised that much with people with an ironical, sarcastic sense of humour, when remarks started to come at me from all angles, from so many that people I didn't know well at all, I didn't know what to think. My inherent faith in human nature made me continue to hope that it was simply being done in humour, but how could I be sure? I had contradicting perceptions at different times. Then Mark came out with the classic "I think you're a gibbering buffon and I want you nowhere my room" and I thought well, that confirms my worst suspicions (Good old Mark :D , The Jedai Master of Sarcasm in my book :notworthy: ).

So then my stubborn side came out and I thought I'll give the %£^£ards as good as I get :) (I hope I did, by the way :D) and was so glad to get a PM from a very wise wammer that confirmed that my initial hopes were correct - yes you were all simply a big bunch of of %$ss-taking buggers, with a fantastic sense of humour). So, on the face of it, it looked to the regulars as though I had no sense of humour and went into a flounce at the drop of a hat, and looked to me and others outside of the regular bunch as though you were a bunch of cruel, sarcastic %&££ers.

This thread was needed as it provides clarity. Any misunderstandings of people and their intentions have been put to bed and satire and sarcasm can resume once again without the fear of anyone being hurt, but please do remember this post at times when you are trolling a newbie, that is to say, someone outside of the close-knit circle. Please don't be surprised if they react badly, and don't assume that it is because they are humourless. Behind that newbie could be someone with qualities very similar to your own, you just haven't realised it yet.:)

On another note, any chance of having t-shirts at the show next year with a slogan to the effect of " I encountered the Wam Central and survived". I'm sure you guys will come up with something better. Suggestions on a post card please....).

Not been here for some time, this is the 1st thread I see upon re-visiting this auld groond. Nice to see the same old names here, and many new too.

Not really been into hi fi or the associated forums for some time, but when it was all I could think about, even with all the tit for tat and rif raf, the Wigwam was one of the better and more welcoming forums to be regardless of what fence you sat on, or how little or much time you had spent here.

I seem to remember a thoroughly good bunch of chappies, even if some played football with wonky balls and their hands, and others are deaf auld grumpy coots who fail see audible differences in cables during blind smelling tests!

Sadly you chose to respond positively to this particular post from James, rather than the one where he told you to shut the fuck up!

Excellent.

Or, they're now traders and sell cables.
