No, the Thorens arms are quite short. However you can get arm boards for the more popular fittings like Rega or Linn.

In the next days/weeks the Audiomods tonearm will come back to my Technics SL 1210 Mk2, while a Stax UA-7 will be installed on the Thorens.

I covet thy plinth, sir

Here's my TD 124/II below. An SME 3009/S2 non-improved and an Ortofon SPU will be added in the next couple of weeks. Been after one on and off for seven years so really excited to get it all up and running:

The new tonearm board for the Stax UA-7 is arrived.

And here is the result, very nice in my opinion.

I have no idea regarding the "sound" of the new tonearm, because I still have to adjust the cartridge, I have resumed my Denon DL-103 SA that should be a good match.

Looks very good.

It looks like you're using the 124 without the upper platter. Does this mean you can't use the clutch to stop the record whilst still keeping the motor running? If so, I've read that that causes increased wear to the motor as it has to start up every time a new record is played.

Hi Greg,

in my system it is better without the aluminium platter and with a graphite mat, so I have decided to use it in this configuration.

Of course in this way I can't use the clutch stop, but I don't turn off motor every time, but simply I change the LP "on the fly".

After a few attempts it becomes a quite simple operation

Ah, I see. Was just concerned for your motor.

As you can see mine is a mkII, the earlier beige colour of the mkI does look very nice - maybe one day I'll add one and have a pair.

Super Wammer

Just given this old girl a tidy up, and a bit of oil. Then added a Shure M55e cartridge, sounds far better then it has any right too, for very little money. :^

Hi folks. Here is my TD160B Mk2 with SME2 improved. I have been struggling a bit with speed stability and I think the belt is to blame. Who makes the best belts for these? I mean something that is close to original rather than snake -oil type? Any suggestions where I should look for wow type issues?

The lastest updates are:

- Stax tonearm has got a new carbon arm, so now it is a UA-7 CF :-)
- a new Thorens clamp
- it has been installed again the original aluminium sub platter

- and a new cartridge (Transfiguration Spirit)
