Music of Brazil - 2014

Recommended Posts

Around 80 days to go before Brazil gets the full headlights of the world's media.

Great chance to do some tourist listening at home. :)

So, a thread for everything musical that you bump into from Brazil 2014.

This is the top trending music video there at the moment, but has a bit more about it than that usually brings. ;-)

A song from 1973 by Raul Seixas, the “Father of Brazilian Rock”, now reworked in a Samsung/Vivo promo,

"Walking metamorphosis."

I'd be very surprised if this one doesn't feature at some point.

Playing for Change -

"While on our journey of recording and filming musicians in Brazil, someone told us that all we needed to do was "shake a tree, and musicians would fall out like fruit." That couldn't have been more true."

Not strictly Brazil, but music breaks down borders quicker than anything else. :D

For deeper exploration, I'd recommend this excellent series Sonoridade, from ARTonAIR.org.

Hosted by Beco Dranoff, who's had a hand in creating the modern Brazilian music scene. 30+ episodes of hour long mixes on specific themes. Maga Bo (Parallel Universe) is my start point for contemporary output.

Bit of a rare groove back in the early eighties from Brazil's former Minister of Culture.

With Rio 2 on the way, a clip of the music making to the original film.

Just to remind you that you probably know who Carlinhos Brown is, already.

That's good.
+1

Luisa Maita has Syrian Muslim and European Jewish musician parents, and was born and brought up in traditionally mixed/Italian part of São Paulo.

Further diversity with

and electric versions of the same song. This one is the movie. :)
