I don't know about you but I seem to end up with a load of HiFi bits n bobs dotted around all over the place, losing half of them on a regular basis in various safe places. About time to build a box for them all, the better half thinks this is a jewelry box, I suppose it is, just not the kind she thinks it is:)

I have some thin pieces of Oak and English Walnut of a decent size, so a dovetailed box is on the cards.

First up is to face the timber, flat and even thickness required. planed the pieces off using my 41/2 plane and the tail vise.

Then cut to size with a rip saw and propped up to check the proportions, all ok so far.

onto my shooting board to true up the ends using my mitre plane,

It's worth getting everything square and true at this stage, makes the dovetailing so much easier,

Base cut to size, trial fitted. This part will be laminated with another wider/longer peice to form the base.

Finish going on. Just a couple of coats of 75% Tung/white spirit to give a semi gloss finish. Nothing fancy as this is going to be a workaday box for my hifi bits, wont be too long before it takes a few knocks.
