As for recommending somehting different myself....

A mate popped up for the weekend with loads of CD's including VNV Nation, Icon of Coil, Convenant, all interesting stuff.....

Covenant are very good - I particularly like Northern Lights. I've also got a couple of Icon of Coil albums.

Not heard any VNV Nation, but I'll look out for it. :D

Black Tape for a Blue Girl - This is interesting. Also soundslike This Mortal Coil.

Dresden Dolls - This is pooh !! Sorry, just not my cup of cocoa.

Drive-by Truckers - Yes, don't mind this one.

L'Ame Immortelle - Also interesting.

Pzychobitch - Much better than I was expecting.

The Gathering - Very good indeed.

Thanks for the suggestions, MIB. Definitely some obscure stuff. Cheers.

This is OK. Seems to be quite an underground following for this album, from my net investigation. Cheers.

yeah, the story goes that when it was released on DERAM in the early 70s it sold very few copies. mint originals now change hands for silly money. it's been re-issued on CD a couple of times, and there are some counterfeits of the LP (I have one - easy to spot and the channels are reversed) as well asvinyl re-issues on Si-Wan and acme. It's a very nice album, kind of folky, but quite rocky too. I'd be interested to know what other people think of it. the latest ACME CD issue has a couple of extra tracks at the end which are quite crap.

I actually have this! For more cello-based foolery, try Rasputina.

I have got this too along with Inquisition Symphony. I will check out Rasputina too.

Saw these guys on the TV coverage of Glasto:

and was very impressed indeed, have downloaded the tracks from their website, including One by Metallica, and it is quite good. Thinking about getting the live album....

They take classic rock and metal tunes and put their own spin on them using accoustic guitars. I like what I have heard.

Hi John

This is certainly obscure. Interesting idea, & certainly made me chuckle a couple of times. Vanessa-Mae with a poodle-perm, anyone?

Ultimately, I wouldn't be able to take this seriously, but many thanks for the chuckles :raoflmfao:

Hello, me again.

Similar comment to my last one. Can't deny that they're obviously excellent musicians, but would probably prefer to see this in a live context than listen at home.

Reminds me a bit of a similar outfit from a few years ago by the name of Acoustic Alchemy. Their music was also based around a flamenco-ish acoustic guitar sound, and their album Red Dust & Spanish Lace is an awesome recording. Don't even know if it's still available.

Here's a few more temptations to take you of the beaten track:

Skinny Puppy – ‘Last Rights’ - Come on you have to listen to them at least once. Modern Industrial at it’s best

Front 242 – ‘Front by Front’ – Classic EBM from the Belgium Meisters

Jack or Jive – ‘Kismet’ - Imagine a darker Japanese version of Cocteau twins without guitars, wonderful bewitching vocals sung in Japanese

Raison D’etre – ‘Within the Depths of Silence and Phormations’ - dark ambient industrial landscapes, always brings a tear to my eyes

Lustmord – ‘Heresy’ – Dark ambient at it’s best, imagine dreaming to low frequencies that paint pictures of deep forgotten mines/caves.

If you like any of these (hope so need more fansof this music on the forum :P), I can take you even further of that beaten track ;)
