So I gave up on my passat 1.8t, it was drinking fuel like a starved fish. 30 mile round trip was costing me £20 in cheap unleaded!

I looked and looked but couldnt find anything in budget down here, I travelled to nottingham to find a car that turned out to be a shed, not like its pics. I gave up, then one day randomly bored browsing autotrader I found my current car... 16 miles away.

Went to look at it, drove it, liked it very much, bought it.

Much better on fuel, 30 miles costs me about £3.20 now!! Car is actually much faster, so much more refined, and so pathetically EASY to just waft around.

Negatives: Diesel, so can hear at idle, it is quiet however. DSG doesnt always change up when you think it should, it trys to match speed with gears, whereas I try to get into 6th as quickly as possible. A gearchange is only a fingertip away however. Will remap it this summer, then it should be pretty perfect for me.

Mucho Pleaso, and the price? Sub 5k ;)

Mmmm, DSG, great until someone slams you up the arse because you couldn't pull away while the gearbox made it's frickin mind up. It took me the blink of an eye to realise the guy behind was going to slam me up the back, the car however was blissfully unaware...

Watch out for exploding turbos too. 50-60k is about right where they go.

Got 90k service to do now. Going to rape my wallet I think, to the tune of around £500. Car has been flawless, only thing that went wrong was a rear brake light bulb, which the car not only informed me of but told me which side too! Unlike when it happened on the passat which caused it to go into permanent limp mode and i had to buy a code reader to figure out it was a brake bulb!

There is a little big of lag with the dsg gearbox but I think your overdoing it with your description, its about half a second and if you stamp down on the accelerator it notices instantly. I manage to get round busy roundabouts fine, albiet with a little bit of panic sometimes but nothing like what your suggesting. You just cant nip in and out of traffic and cut people up like you can in a manual.

Generally my driving has been alot more relaxed and efficient.

I am going to sell it soon and upgrade to a newer lower mileage S line, just got to decide between the 170 tdi and the 2.0t, you only notice its a diesel at idle and startup, the question is are those two benefits of petrol cars worth the economy and tax differences?

So i put it up for sale, cheapest within 200 miles and lower mileage and higher spec than all. No takers.

Bought a 2007 Sportback 2.0t FSI S line, which I loved and it was running around 260hp. Wrote it off 3 days later - got stranded in the floods near Torpoint at 3am on the way home and a river bank burst and flooded it, 3 feet deep river water + lowered audi = instant write off.

Theres no worse feeling car wise of watching your car getting written off inch by inch by an act which you have absolutely no control over :(
