I was going to put Fela Kuti but didn't really know which track.

A favorite of my youth and a pretty huge choon in itself.

Thanks Brian,

When you go to bakeoffs with beardy Folk types, long haired Rockers, swoony singer songwriter lovers anything with a bit of BALLS scares them. :D but watch them all moan when I don't bring any music :)

Maceo, now we are talking!!!

what a great thread. thanks

Dean, I keep reading Bake off reports about your musical taste, and you take some stick. If this thread is it, you are very welcome up to a bake off in the frozen north, where your taste will be more appreciated!!.

Hi,

I have tonnes of funk in my house.

Good funk is heavy on the rhythm. James Brown developed the emphisis "on the one". For this you need a good bass player.

[video=youtube;IHE6hZU72A4]

More importantly you need a good drummer.

Get the groove going and lets funk!

First record with the word Funky in the title.

SCIDB, Dean a great insight there in that first clip. I always hear this music as the strong 2 and 4 thing.

in fact you can hear this in the click track that he plays with. so to hear him talk of the 1 is great.

Who listens to the bass player anyway??? (sorry leonard)

Check out the drum demo in video 2 especially the 2nd half. you will hear his 2 and 4 on the snare.

Then the 3rd video. strong 2 and 4 from drums but the bass is using the 1 technique mentioned.

love this thread

fascinating stuff.
