Favourite 3 albums of the 60's

Recommended Posts

The Band - The Band

Led Zep 2

Beatles White Album

I could have stuck a couple of Zappa albums and most of the Beatles output in but the 3 above are ones I played a lot at the time

Frank Zappa - Hot Rats

Frank Zappa - The Grand Wazoo

King Crimson - ITCOTCK

Should know better :clout:, 1972 .

Ive just gone through the link above, of the top 100 albums of 1969. I always believed it was a great year for music, and this list has just confirmed it for me. So from that single year, I choose the following.

Hot Rats - Frank Zappa

Goodbye Cream - Cream

Led Zeppelin 2. - Led Zeppelin.

I dare not look at any of the other years, or I will have to change one or all of the above :nerves:.

Can't do three.

As per another thread, mid-60s to mid-70s was when all the good music got done.

Three from the 60s? Impossible. 30 maybe.

Pick three out of these:

Marvin Gaye, Heard it Through the Grapevine

Hendrix, Axis Bold as Love

Moody Blues, Threshold of a Dream

Beatles, Abbey Road

Beatles, Sgt Peppers

King Crimson, Court of the Crimson King

The Who, Tommy

Beefheart, Troutmask Replica

Zappa, Hot Rats

Bowie, Space Oddity

Dylan, Nashville Skyline

Santana, about six albums, I think

Pink Floyd, some of the best stuff

etc. etc. etc.

Shit. I could probably find at least 300 albums in my collection that hail from the 60s, and possibly more. Three? In your dreams.

I like my vinyl of Ogden's Nut Gone Flake (as earlier), but cannot pick 3 from The Beatles - Simon & Garfunkel - Leonard Cohen - Pink Floyd - Joni - The Who - Rolling Stones - Mary Hopkin - The Byrds - Bobalicious Dylan etc ...

I cannot reply, so will programme this to self-runoutgroove in 15 minutes.

Agreed, in fact both are worth a try. The "What We Did On Our Holidays - and Introduction to Fairport Convention" a 1969 release and the 1999 "What We Did On Our Holidays". They're very different in many respects. Not least because the latter one is not from the '60s hence off topic for this thread!

Tricky one really, it was a bit before my time and there was a load of guff made in the 60s as well. I'll probably go with Hendrix Are you Experienced, , Sam Cooke Night Beat and Cream Disraeli Gears. Way too many singles to mention of course, as much of the 60s was about singles rather than the album. Those who were listening to music at the time will come to this with a different perspective no doubt.
