best cd player sound on a low budget

Recommended Posts

If someone know a dvd player with buttons like on a cd player i will have a look at that
There must be some cheap dvd player out there that has button so it would be as easy to play cd's as a real cdplayer (why buy a cdplayer and dvd player if all you need is a dvd player) , don't forget digital output, but doesn't even the cheapest dvd player have that compared to £200 cdplayers where you can't be shure it has a digital output.

Have seen the Cambridge dvdplayer, i just know that the local dealer in denmark have more problems with cambridge that any other barnd they sell (marantz which they have stopped selling, tibo, densen, audiolab, quad).

I found a Denon PMA 715 and DCD 725 for just under 90 euros with shipping  (2x65 watt in 8ohm) i could have bought both but i don't need another amp, so a review of my Marantz PM6006 it's got 2x51 watt in 8 ohm, shure more watt is nice, it's not what i need, are looking for.

looks good (black), simple cdplayer, sound should be good(never seen a really bad review of a denon cdplayer) and it has digital out (most people don't have a dac they use with there cdplayer so theres often no information if the digital out works) no remote (have an universal remote), 40 euros.

For around 70 euros i can get one of the new dac from nobsound, fosi audio, smsl,fx audio and other brands like that or a Argon, DAC1 (brand sold by hififklubben witch is related to dali), Hegel HD2 (don't get great reviews), cambridge dac 3 (good reviews), cambridge DacMagic 100.

New dac, mostly fx audio, smsl, nobound for under 70 euros

https://www.amazon.de/dp/B07TKV72LB/ref=sr_1_279?keywords=dac&qid=1582330401&sr=8-279 (don't need tone controls and headphone amp)

https://www.amazon.de/dp/B07VDQQY95/ref=sr_1_286?keywords=dac&qid=1582330401&sr=8-286 (more or less the same as the nobound dac above)

A used Schiit Modi 3 ? $99 in usa, in europe it's $146 WHY ?

Used beresford tc-7510 i think would be perfect for me, good sound, low retail price when it was new (£120), look are more basic but it sounds good

No hurry in getting a good external dac, main focus was to get somthing that works good and has a  perfect working digital out, so when im ready to upgrade i can just find a 70 euro dac or wait a little longer and buy a used for 100 euros

Said it numerous times before - will say it again.  Buy the best DAC you can afford - then source cd players with digital out (cheap second hand or a new Cambridge CD transport only for £250).  Lasers fail and the manufacturers discontinue the laser assemblies making older machines difficult if not impossible to repair.

Think of the CD transport like a cartridge on your TT.  In the future you will have to buy a new stylus or replacement cartridge.   So put some money aside to replace the transport when it dies (which it will do eventually) ..

My 20yr old sony SCD777ES is still going strong...still the best player I've heard IMHO..

When it dies I will not replace it and it will be cremated with me..

KINDEST REGARDS JULIAN

Most of the buttons that you are after are on the remote control but look at eBay at the older Marantz CD players like this

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F193343651786

£80 or offer

I have found a cdplayer, i have to hope that the digital out works since not many use the digital out, has an external dac.

Why a dvd player is because most of those who are new has a digital out and warranty besides being cheap BUT lacks play (cd) buttons on the unit and are a bit slow from when you load a cd to it starts playing, find it stupid to use a remote control when sitting 2 feet next to the unit.

Got a Denon DCD--725 only downside i have with it, is it's a bit noisy when the disc spins, when it stops and when going to another track (skip) + the cdplayer has to be at a certain hight for all of the display visable, has output level control, why only analog and not digital i don't know, mabye they can't make a digital output level control, it can skip on some songs (not unsually on some older cd players).

It reacts fast (not bad), digital out works, detachable power cord, mains (figure 8, i have a hifi power mains, cable with figure 8),analog output level control

Little to the brighter, clearer side when playing (thats some of the charateristic of denon older hifi compared to marantz)  fix = qed performce interconnects, to me this cable has more warm than neutral sound (the player was fairly cold when i got it, not room temperature 21-22c, highs may change), good bass, playes yellow on the run dynamically with alot of energy, survivor eye of the tiger is also approved, a little more bass using the dac in my amp (coaxial)

less than £40 with a suzanna vega lp and delivery to my front door is not that bad (didn't for the price expected it to be delivered to my front door)
