Thankyou James - someone else who has answered the question.

I did not ask what proportion of the £1000 should be allocated to different parts of the system. I have already decided the allocation.

And lets keep it clean - this not hard and its not politics.

Jack

On a more serious note.  WGR, that is worth questioning.

Super Wammer

Roksan Xerxes mk1/Rega RB300 £500

Goldring E3 cartridge £70

Rega Mira amp(inc phono) £225

Tannoy Mercury 2 speakers £100

bit left over for cables etc

had all of these at one time bar the cartridge as it wasn’t out then but have it now.

One of the best tonality balanced systems I had. Those M 2’s were punching well above their weight.

Old but interesting.

Pair of ESL57s. Working well enough to last a year or so and sound good: £500.

Leak Stereo 30 Plus: £50.

Revolver turntable with arm: £150.

New Goldring 1042: £240.

Leaves £60 for cables.

I’m not sure you have to buy second hand when you can get a pretty good system new. I would go for:

Pro-Ject Primary E phono turntable - 250 pounds

TubeCube 7 3.5 watts per channel single ended EL84 - $180 plus shipping

Klipsch R51M speakers - 250 pounds

Cables - Duelund DCA16GA speaker cable, Duelund DCA20GA interconnect and Swichcraft RCA plugs -100 pounds from Hi Fi Collective

Stands - IsoAcoustics if desktop - 80 pounds, floor standing - Atacama Moseco 6 120 pounds

Just about within budget, but buy a set of Psvane valves if anything left for 100 pounds.

" With Great Respect"  Sorry for not being clear.  The point I was getting at , especially with vinyl, is the quality of the signal reaching the amp is important imho. You might look at spending 50% on the TT.

And that’s exactly what I put in my above suggestions 👍🏻

Having said that, my speakers cost more than twice the amount of any one item in my system but with Harbeth, it merits it lol.

so good are those tannoys I mentioned, I’ve found a decent pair and purchased them for a fraction over £100 but with original boxes.. I put my money where my mouth is lol. Don’t tell @Idlewithnodrive as I’ve accused him of being a speaker horder 👍🏻

Agreed that a good case can be made for spending a bit more on the front end. The one third split was a guideline only really.

Pretty good shout, that. Simple, fuss free, good sound.
