£1000 vinyl-based system: suggestions..

Recommended Posts

Based on experience what components would the reader suggest to go into a £1K vinyl player domestic system. Provisionally, the budget would be divided into 3 lots of £300 plus £100 for stands and cabling. Thus front end £300, amp/pre/phono £300, speakers £300 as a rough guide.

The equipment should be priced as pre owned and reasonably available on the UK pre owned marketplace: eg. forum classifieds, magazine classifieds ebay etc.

You are not asked to suggest a complete system necessarily but offer kit that would fit the frame of reference.

Nor need the equipment be actually advertised or available now.

Its a theoretical exercise.

The choice is massive .. personal view get a Systemdek IIx with arm (circa £250 mark on ebay) with an AT or Ortofon Cartridge, MF A3 integrated amp (but there are many other choices from Arcam and others) and any speakers of your choice .. loads of bargains to be had for £200 to £300 on ebay.

What would be better is for you to make a list of TTs Amps and Speakers that tickle your fancy and ask Wammers to give their opinions of them (perhaps)

As an exercise find an old pair of speakers that ought to work in your room. Loads out there.

Then find an old integrated with a respected phono stage that will drive said speakers adequately.Loads out there.

Then spend the rest on a TT for £6/700 is how I would do it if asked to put one together. Fewer of these though.

I appreciate the point Mike, but its not actually my room it would be going in. I get the front end biased budget though as a way forward.

Thankyou James - someone else who has answered the question.

I did not ask what proportion of the £1000 should be allocated to different parts of the system. I have already decided the allocation.

And lets keep it clean - this not hard and its not politics.

Ingrowing toe-nail. Right foot. You'll find it on the end of the leg.
