Single most underrated item of HiFi

Recommended Posts

If you were asked to name just one item of HiFi equipment that you considered to be totally underrated what would it be?

Possibly a basic interconnect that come with any equipment. Without it, nothing works.

I have a feeling this thread isn’t going in the direction you’d hoped .

A bit like directional cables.

The single most important component of any hifi system is  the Music you play on it.   (of course you cannot play it without the kit but the reason you have the kit is to play the bloody music end of)

Google Chromecast Audio.

Bloody fantastic for £30 and could easily cost triple that and still be great value.

I had one for years and was very happy indeed with it. A truly great piece of kit and stupidly cheap.

Think i may have badly phrased my original question, so I'll try again.

In your experience what piece of HiFi equipment have you owned that out-performed it's generally accepted reputation.

My Rotel RCD 06 CDP (Used as a Transport). It is still enjoyed eleven years after I bought it new! 👍

Super Wammer

Ironically I was also thinking of the two discontinued streamers, Chromecast Audio and Squeezebox Touch. But actually I often think that budget bookshelf speakers are amazing, and with a bit of care can give terrific results for the money.

I also think Grado cartridges are underrated, but I’m wary of recommending them because some folks seem to find them susceptible to hum.  Their midrange is beautiful though.

My girlfriend and I are frequently amazed by the sound coming from our £60, 5 inch tall Wonderboom Bluetooth speaker.

Though I’m not sure it really qualifies as hifi...
