What a terrible story - I don't recall hearing anything at all about this at the time. It does beg the question though - why were irreplaceable items like this not protected in fire safes or some equivalent structure, rather than chucked into a dusty corner of a nondescript warehouse? Cynically, I'd say because a company the size of UMG doesn't actually care anything for the heritage of the music, film and other physical items they've created (and inherited) - as long as there's some profit to be made from an inferior copy somewhere that's all that matters. Such a tragedy to have lost so much output from decades of iconic artists
