I didn't like how they sounded through some Kef Ref 205/2s, on the one time I heard them.

Combined with the Refs, they sounded a bit hard, shouty and unmusical......but this may well not represent what they are capable of - they may not be a match for the Refs, or the room didn't suit the system.

hi cno and thanks for the reply.

i find the units quite interesting to look at - they seem to have a unique style to my eyes at least !

i have noted that rega use a top loading system as it is claimed to cut down on the vibrations you get with the normal cd tray mechanism.

i wonder how big a difference the various valve options sound on the valve version of the isis cd player ?

I have read good things about the Valve option, but never heard one.

Personally, I wouldn't shell out big money on a CD player, as a well designed Streamer usually sounds better, for less money.

If I was looking at a CD player, it would be from Electrocompaniet or Pathos.

Can't comment on the sound. However, years of going into my Rega dealer I've never seen any of these. Now whether it's because of a lack of demand or some other reason, I don't know...

hi plasticpenguin

one of my local dealers used to have this combination on demo with the top of the range b&w speakers as their"best" system.

i never got chance to have a listen but a few years later they sold their only osiris amp and apparently rega never provided a replacement !

I heard the valve cd with the amp at a Rega day at a dealers with quite big Rega speakers, a few years ago. Sounded really good and much better than their record deck being played through the amp on the day. Can't remember which record deck it was but it was one of the better ones and MC cart.
