Elvis, Heartbreak Hotel was the biggest seller. Though as PP points out, the 'official' top ten chart hadn't started. God, I feel old...

1952. Although the official charts compiled by the Beeb didn't start until 1969 (UK)

According to my research the first chart was issued on 14th November 1952.

So when I was born there were no record charts.

Correct but this site will give you the popular one's before that:

Popular - yes, but the title of the thread is No. 1, so sorta not relevant.

He married my mum and they had a great life. 50+ cruises. Seen most of the world I reckon. Sadly passed away over Xmas.Great guy.                    Had a very extensive record collection. I have been very fortunate to have been blessed by people who embraced all kinds of music ..But my late uncle was my biggest influence. He was an engineer and loved quality equipment. One of the first with quad gear 57s .quad ll. Garrard 301s .Stuff .then tannoy buckinghams with 405s  . Mind blowing to a lad in his teens when my contemporary 's where listening to radiograms and portable players in a box that you could put 5 singles on a time.
