Many thanks DJ... much appreciated :) I can also see that DIN to RCA cables are available via eBay, so I may take a punt with one of those in due course...

Awesome. Any chance someone who has never done this would be able to fit one or is that likely to turn my player into an expensive brick?

Will do DJ... once my Opus 21 and the eBay cable arrives, I'll be connecting it from its DIN out to the RCA inputs on my Accuphase amp and I'll report back with my thoughts on any perceived difference compared to XLR to XLR and RCA to RCA. He markets the cable as a "Custom designed Opus 21 CDP Interconnect" so I have every confidence that it'll work. I also note from the item/cable eBay description that seller says that "the DIN output bypasses the internal volume control" but as I've yet receive by Opus 21 (it arrives tomorrow) I have no hands-on experience to know if that is an issue.

Ahhh..... understood. I've just ordered one as a spare and at around £16 delivered, it'd be rude not too. If mine ever needs replacing, I'll use somebody who hasn't got sausage fingers like me and get it done properly. Better to be safe than sorry :)

Arrived and in situ... first up, spinning Wish You Were Here SACD via XLR to XLR in the Accuphase...

I'll have a dabble with DIN to RCA once the lead arrives...

Hi Pete,

Ian Fraser  knows his stuff, he made some good RCA to DIN cables for my Quads a while back.  I am sure the ICs will be fine!

All the best,

Graham

It arrived today too Graham and appears to be a beautifully made connector... its doing a sterling job between my Opus 21 and Accuphase amp, so for just under £50 delivered, its a billy bargain too :)

Looking good Pete. So glad you got one in the end and I hope it lives up to expectation. Keep us posted.

Thanks Jamie... I know its its early days, but its sounding pretty sublime too. The sheer depth, separation, imagining and audio retrieval I'm getting from discs I thought I knew well are the most striking features thus far. Its a good thing that I not only have loads of them in my collection, they are also plentiful and cheap 2nd hand :)

Same colour as mine. Us B|

In all seriousness though, I first heard it at a meet with some Head-Fi brethren at a meet up I arranged. At the time I could barely afford a standard CD player from Dixons but once I heard it I had to have it. Saved for ages and bought it and it's been my trusty source for 12 years. Never once considered changing it, although it needs a service now as it's a bit fussy about which discs it accepts

Hopefully you get as much enjoyment :D

Thanks guys... I'm really looking forward to a full weekend of use from her but if first impressions are anything to go by, I can't imagine anything else, for what it has set me back, will be any better. I'll also be trawling the .net for cheap CD's :)

 Haven't
Haven't posted on here for some time but having an ageing Opus 21 I recently took a punt on a replacement driver from an ebay seller in China. My Opus wasn't giving any driver trouble but I just wanted to future proof the machine (hope that makes sense) Anyway the driver arrived in about a week well packed and still sealed in what looks like original packaging with a manufacture date of April 2005 stamped on it.

I haven't fitted the unit so can't vouch for its quality  but seeing as its harder and harder to source these drivers thought I would just add the ebay link for any Opus users that may be interested

Thanks for the pointer Jonny... I bought my Opus with it having had a new laser fitted, so I may pick up one of these drives as a precaution too.

I still can’t believe how good this player sounds. I did have the pleasure to hear John/Lurch’s Lector CDP in his system recently and that was stunning too, but I’d still recommend that if anybody gets enjoyment from spinning the silver discs and sees an Opus 21 listed for less than £1k, that they grab it before somebody else does :D

Are these relatively easy to fit, or do they require some kind of adjustment/tuning by a specialist once they're fitted?
