Ultimately the only bricks & mortar  dealers who  survive will be the true specialists,  who sell and install a high  proportion of expensive high end kit [with good margins]  to a relatively low number of clients .

They simply  don't need the footfall numbers or  numeric customer base  that a traditional high street shop requires to make a living.

The best ones still carry and demonstrate good inexpensive  Hi Fi as well ...and aren't too far  up their own arses :D

The guys who continue to do a really good job can still thrive ...because the best route  to getting a really good sound at home is via competently demonstrated and  installed systems.   And you can't get that on Amazon ...even with Prime.

Ah, yes, I think there is a fundamental point there, regarding our economy, that more and more money is concentrated at the very top of the food chain.

Selling the very best of the best to those with more money than they know what to do with is not a bad business model at all. But you do have to be very, very good at what you do and know how to satisfy the most critical and unforgiving of customers.

Watched a guy, I think he was a pro snooker player, spending £6k or so getting an 'old' (that's a relative term) Range Rover vinyl-wrapped for his rising 17 year old son, ready for when he'd passed his test - actually £6k might have been the insurance - they were both a similar price! And the interior completely recovered in red leather, or white leather with red stitching or some such. But the guy running the 'shop where it was all done knew his business and what these sorts of customers were looking for.
