Alternatives to MiniDSP UMIK-1 mic

Recommended Posts

I was looking for a used MiniDSP UMIK-1 measurement microphone and found the similarly priced Dayton Audio:

http://www.daytonaudio.com/index.php/umm-6-usb-measurement-microphone.html

.

Then I came across this Omnitronic for half the price (around £55 delivered):

It's not calibrated like the other two but the frequency response looks pretty flat and is probably good enough for room measurements:

Has anyone used one?

I've used the Behringer measurement mic in the past with good results - you need a suitable USB interface that will also provide the power it needs, Behringer do one of those too - but I bought a Umik-1 to replace it because the miniDSP DDRC-24 that I am now using can only work with the Umik.

I had the Behringer too, some years ago, with an Art mic pre. Should have kept it...

I got a Behringer ECM 8000 plus USB interface and sorted my room modes out straight away, and although I haven't used it I found a calibration file which I was going to load into REW.

The Omnitronic arrive today.

This weekend I'll try to make a few measurements and import the corrected sub-300Hz response into HQ Player.
