Hifh and mighty Hawk

Recommended Posts

Any Coleman Hawkins fans out there? I love this accessible and rhythmical LP.

According to certain sources CH pretty well invented the tenor sax as a major instrument and was a leading figure in the Fletcher Henderson band. Hawkins became very influential and pursued a long and distinguished career until his death in 1969.

Apparently he appeared on one of the first 'bebop' recordings in 1944 with Roach , Pettiford and Dizzy Gillespie (Wikipedia).
