Best ABBA track and why

Recommended Posts

I like Mama Mia

Not cos I ain't queer

But I'll accept that the first two rhyme - either way !

I think Mama Mia represents a zenith in Abba's ability to combine a sentiment, a melody and a vamp and make you buy it. Few others have done this - the Pet Shop Boys and OMD notwithstanding!

- The Sentiment: Lost Love or the Search of Love (who knew)

-  The Melody: here I go again etc.

-  The vamp: My My

Go figuere :-)

Waterloo, just because it is the one that started the ABBA phenomenon.

Dancing Queen. Best pop song ever, period. If there was a machine that made the perfect pop song, this is the song it would generate. So IMO it's the best ABBA track, but not my favourite. My favourite is Day Before You Came: the last song they ever recorded together (until this year). Angetha reputedly sang the vocals in the dark in one session, then walked out the studio never to enter it again with the other three for 36 years.

I might be wrong but I'm guessing the world will be going Abba mad when the new album is released next year.

Apparently they've  been having fun working together again.
