My advice to any novice in the jazz genre is there's no need to force it. Just keep enjoying what you find good. Keep exploring and challenging yourself to like different stuff.

One day you will find yourself at the heart of the jazz genre and really really enjoy it, playing the same albums 5 times like a teenybopper replays One direction. You will hear Dearly Beloved on Trane's Sun Ship for the first time and your mind will be blown away into sub-molecular particles. The voice in your head "Do I like this? I'm supposed to like this. Come on like this!" will be gone.

It doesn't matter if this leads to this. It's your path, so enjoy every bit of it.

I got into Jazz via saxophones in rock music, the Stones, Steely Dan, Springsteen and Pink Floyd.

I suppose to a certain extent I must have as well. All the bands you listed are in my top ten. :)

 Have you heard this:

Tim Ries is the Sax player for the Stones and he asked them if he could Jazz it up and redo a bunch of songs with different arrangements and keys. All the fellas play on it somewhere except Mick.
