I have had serious trouble from SWMBO today about a cartridge she thought was £400 was actually £950, a £250 loss on a sold phono that is now being returned by the buyer at more expense because I cocked up a photo on eBay.  She doesn't know yet but if I am to keep the cartridge I need to get another phono stage:o

She hates hifi and is not that keen on music either:o

this is the place to share your pain ;) good luck!

I've just noticed your avatar line, would seem that's you as well.

How on earth did you get the W8's passed yours?

My gatekeeper thought the RFC work on the H6 extravagant at about £500.

To be fair it wasn't always like this, she came on many demos in the days BC, but now>:(

Actually Greg the thing to do is to get another hobby! I am a radio ham and have been for 50 years, so my wife is well used to black boxes arriving and going. I have more RF amplifiers than AF ones. Thankfully my wife loves music though she is not into Hi-Fi. When we met she gave me her records which looked like they’d been cleaned with a Brillo pad!

She refuses to go near mine thankfully.

Good luck with that cartridge!

My step dad was into that, he was always listening to very strange reception noises from Russia or somewhere and then next be talking to someone on an island in the Atlantic.

My other dad was into CB radio and all that odd talk and "handles" 10-4

well I don't have silly hobbies (as SWMBO would term it, her "long time ago" ex fulfilled that role ;-)) and I'm always honest with her, not that's she's interested! However it was over 20 years since I bought anything new when that evil dealer sent me a demo pair  . . . ran them in and put on something that she would know / like (strange taste in music) "Dusty in Memphis" she listened to one side, commented "she's in the room" and then turned to me and said "so you going to buy them?"

I fully accept that it has cost me since :)

Until your PS, I was thinking along the lines of something that Ann Summers might have sold.

Shows how my mind works, anyway!

S.

as I understand it with Ann Summers size matters, so at least they agree with you in as far as don't like it if it doesn't measure well :) .. Happy new year Serge

Resolutely 2 channel and still no downloads, flac whatever that might be etc.

Bit of a dinosaur really.

Don't worry.  I have no interest yet until high-res becomes a reality with relevant music titles instead of the usual 'hi-fi' recordings with unheard of female vocalists whinning down a mike with piano and token percussion.  All pretentious wannabe jazz-cafe nonsense that bores after 30-seconds of listening.

How are you getting on with the Sony DVD as CD source?

I don't get that stuff either, popular at hifi shows, undemanding.  Been using the Marantz rather than the Sony but then not been playing much lately with Christmas and stuff.

As for phono, I am waiting for a Parks Audio MM to come from the states.  But if you browse around on here there was a post a few days ago someone looking for  a phono.
