Indeed :^, but as an alternative to the mash, try boiled new potatoes tossed in butter and chopped spring onions.

Soup noodles. We make the broth from scratch using lots of chicken bones and veg and then freeze in family sized portions. Asian supermarkets will stock lots of different noodles from Japan, Thailand, China etc. Add the meat and veg of your choice and you will have a lovely, healthy meal. The broth takes ages to cook (you can buy instant, but it's not the same) but as we make that in advance, the actual cooking time on the night itself is dependent on the meat you serve with it.

Good stuff.. Nice ideas to work on there.

Glad you liked it. Take a swing at Mediterranean food, James - I'm sure your family will like it! Key thing there is fresh products, good olive oil and spices and generally quality ingredients. Good luck!

While I don't disagree, living in the area makes those things a lot easier to come by.

Girlfriend is sitting here planning next week's menu. Our target is always cheap and healthy - she recommends getting any of the Hairy Dieters books. Full of proper family friendly recipes - wouldn't know it was a 'diet' book if it wasn't in the title.

I have been getting into slow cooked food.

Get a slow cooker and a timer that fits into the plug socket.

Sort your life out when you get home from work, cook food about 9pm, stick it in the slow cooker, set timer to finish cooking about 3am..................

Get up for work and stick the cooled food in the fridge for when you get home.

Curry goat/mutton

Proper Bolognese

Lamb shank

Lamb shank curry

Steak and Guiness stew with barley

Pulled pork

Soy and Ginger Chicken Thighs

Chicken thighs in general for other recipes
