  1. Few days ago we listened the speakers Elac Vela 403 and 407 with Mcintosh 5300, Mastersound Box 2018 and Luxman 505 II. The cables were Vertere. Compared to the older 40X series, the new ones were softer and sweeter in the top registers and both had more bass. In total they sounded more relaxed with tons of details and nice space. We started with the Mc 5300 and Vela 403, but then we switched to the Mastersound. Oh, what a jump. The whole system became alive, with much better resolution, more 3d sounding, better controlled bass and cleaner voice. No question, it is a better amp. Continuing with the 407, we received a netter bass and soundstage. Then, we matched it with the Luxman 505. To my ears it sounded the best. One day I buy one. The soundstage became a bit narrower but more organized than with Mastersound, and still much better than 5300. The resolution was great, it sounded very lifelike, neutral, rounded. The piano and the voices were perfect, the sound was like in a flow. The Elacs were so transparent that we could immediately tell the differences between the amps. The systems sounded well with everything: Karen Souza, Jazz+Az, Rammstein, Nirvana, Vangelis. I wanted to see what could be my next speakers, but at the end the 505 impressed me the most. If you have a possibility, I would recommend to listen it and also the Mastersound (tube amp).
  2. Brilliant active speakers and unusually they are actually good looking too! and quite domestically acceptable. This was used at my office, paired with the excellent Matrix Mini-I Pro2 DAC (listed separately) via balanced pre-amp connection. It's superb system, but speakers are surprisingly dynamic for the size with great extension, open and very clear thanks to the AMT based Jet tweeter. Bass extension and definition is near the best I've heard from any standmount I owned (passive or active). They are adaptable to wide range of music programme and well suitable even for TV duties and high quality video material ... as any good speaker should be. Placement is flexible with not particularly challenging room integration as there are numerous adjustments: including freq response trim in-line with the acoustic space and placement, high frequency trim and LF cutoff if anyone is planning to add the subwoofer at some point (although bass extension is already exemplary). It's worth mentioning that digital AES and S/PDIF (Coax + TosLink) inputs are conveniently present if anyone is planing to attach the digital sources. In that case, S/PDIF parallel passthrough (together with digital switch enablement) is needed so that other speaker could be attached and L/R selection assigned (as S/PDIF is transmitting stereo signal via single input lane). In general, I would recommend that volume gain is set-up at the maximum volume you will ever listen to the speakers and then matched with the associated pre-amp. If anyone wold like to read the actual manual and gain more information about the specs and usage , here it is attached: am_180.pdf They are pro/studio grade active speakers, superb value for money and much better alternative to "mainstream" active speakers costing much more. Condition is excellent, just usual and unavoidable black/gloss finish swirl marks and stands marks on the bottom. I will resin polish them before the hand over, as per my usual practice. I would recommend Sorbothane anti-vibraton hemispheres as best option to isolate the speakers form the stand, desk or any suitable furniture. Actually, if anyone is interested I could bundle the following, together with the speakers: 4x Sorbothane hemispheres, 2x high quality angled RCA adapters, 2x custom built angled IEC power cables. Angled adapters and IEC cables are perfect for near wall placement and set is shown on one of the pictures below. Also, I believe that I may have unused pair of reasonably good Pixel T80 stands (bought from Richer Sounds some tome ago) and could offer them for £40. £530 UK shipped or collected from TW8 Thanks for reading!

  4. For sale is a set of three Elac Cinema 2 speakers (black) and two matching stands. The speakers are small and neat, the body is brushed aluminium, the grilles are metal. The top/bottom panels are plastic. The speaker terminals are binding posts. The stands (Elac Cinema LS) are metal tube, with heavy metal bases for stability. The cables can be run inside the tubes. The set is a great compact option to add Centre and L+R surround channels on a budget or add additional surround channels (e.g. surround back, front width/height, Atmos). Both speakers and stands are in good condition. Some rubber feet on speakers have deteriorated but can be easily replaced with adhesive bumpers of suitable size. Binding posts surface shows age. Very little actual use on these. Price for the complete set: 150GBP Collection in London (the 3 speakers can be posted, but the stands are too long). Specs here, including stands: http://ftp.elac.com/en/products/Cinema/Cinema_2_SAT/ Some pics here: https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=elac+cinema+2&rls=com.microsoft:en-GB:IE-Address&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiyl-DKz9XSAhWEFywKHfnIBW4Q_AUICSgC&biw=1741&bih=830#tbm=isch&q=elac+cinema+2+stands Brochure: http://ftp.elac.com/en/products/1._general_downloads/general_downloads/downloads/ELAC_Product_Overview_EN_09_2013.pdf Will add some pics of actual items when I have a moment. 6. ELAC BS403 speakers in oiled walnut veneer - were £1479, now £1195 ELAC BS403 are stunning little standmount speakers, superb hand-built German quality with a 10 year warranty, coupled with a dynamic room-filling sound http://www.audiologica.co.uk/elac/elac-bs403.html
  7. I bought these to replace Harbeth P3 ESRs. To my ears, the Elacs are substantially better. The Harbs have a bit of a recessed treble; the Elacs really open up the sound, yet don't become harsh. Bass extensions is excellent for a speaker of this size, and is well defined and taut. Elacs have a bit of a low profile in the UK for some reason. They are made in Germany, using their own drivers (including the Jet 5 tweeter used in thsi speaker). Buid quality is superb and the finish on these is very impressive. They do need a bit of room behind them, in my room at least. I'm selling these as I've gone back to Art speakers, that I've had and really liked before (that also suit the room better, aesthetically and sonically) Review: http://www.hifi-review.net/452-elac-bs-263.html Full details at manufacturer's site: https://elac.com/product/bs-263/ I bought these new (sealed box) fairly recently, at a good price. They usually retail at £1,250: https://www.audiodestination.co.uk/elac-bs-263-loudspeakers-pair-2453 I can therefore offer them at the superb price of £425. UK carriage is £23 by UPS. Yes, just about a third of the retail price for a pair just a month or two old! First to pay secures. They have all their original packaging and are in excellent condition (more or less mint, as they've been taken out of the box, sited on stands and stayed there!). The stands shown aren't included, but could be for anyone collecting (high quality, heavyweight, rigid - B&W I think; not sure I have the spikes though; PM for a price if interested) Sorry about the poor pictures, but high gloss black is difficult to photo. Plenty of pics on the web and these are more or less as new.
  9. Hi all, just looking to see if anyone has experience with the Elac 243.2 speakers. I have a Cambridge Audio 651r surround amp and would be looking to add an Elac centre speaker as well at some point. I cant find anywhere to demo the speakers so could do with opinions on what these speakers are like. I have the keep the speakers small due to space so cant go much bigger. Opinons welcome!!
