  1. I have a Denon PMA -850 Amplifier for sale. Please message me for details. I also have, for sale, the Denon TU-850 Tuner to match. I have had both for a couple of years but never used them. Both in good working order. They are in good condition but the tuner has a small scratch and one missing knob. Offers over £500 for both. Thanks for looking Hermione

    What to upgrade!

Hi everyone, I'm generally happy with the sound of my system, the problem came when I walked into a B&O shop and heard the Beolab 50s. The mids and highs were so much clearer and didn't get nearly as "screechy" yet sounded much more crisp at very high volumes. I'm just wondering what I could do to replicate their sound (short of paying £26k). Any thoughts appreciated. Picture of setup (listed below) attached: Speakers: Focal 726V Amp: Nad C370 (cleaned up about 2 years ago) Dac: Irdac 2 Sub: Homebuilt, 2x peerless xls10, 2x 300w rms digital plate amps. Ported, tuned to 20hz. I'm thinking something like 2nd hand Adam Audio Gamma / B&W 802d s2/3 but would be very open to suggestions. Budget is as low as possible to replicate / rival the sound, max probably 10k including electronics. Thanks in advance!

I still can't believe how great this ugly amp is. I've bought many amps over 1k when curious but none have betterd it. Truly a glorious sound.
  4. Hello All, I have bought a set of Sennheiser HD650 for my son for Christmas. At the moment he is living in student residence studying classical guitar at the Royal Academy. He has a Mac Book Pro and a Samsung phone to deliver music. Can anyone advise me on a DAC/AMP combo for up to £200 max. Everything keeps returning to Chord Mojo but its just too much cash. Could be a desk top or portable. So far looked at. Oppo HA-2SE Schiit Fulla 2 And loads of other leads and youtube videos and only one that grabbed me was OPPO HA-2SE. Any advice welcome. Refine sound out of PC and just headphone amp?
  5. iFi Audio iDSD Micro DSD D-A Convertor. £350 iFi Audio Micro iUSB3.0 Power Supply. £320 iFi Audio Mercury USB Cable IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. £85 iFi Audio Gemini Dual-Headed USB Cable IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. £120 All in excellent condition with box and accessories.
  6. Push pull, triode-strapped EL519s, 32w per channel in Class A with huge current capability. For 32W the output transformers are enormous, making the unit weigh a backbreaking 29kg. Both balanced and single ended inputs, input attenuators for in-room channel balance and preamp matching, it can be strapped for a 64w monoblock. Output taps for 4, 8 and 16 ohm speakers for flexibility. Unmarked and working perfectly, I don’t know how old it is, but according to Tom (montesquieu), who I bought it from, it was re-valved in 2013. According to people who have owned many EAR amps the 861 is considered TdP's masterpiece, having the ideal combination of sweetness and punch. If you don't need the 50w of the 534 or 70w of the 890 then this is the best of the range. The EL519 valve is very high current, so even Triode strapped, it can produce 32w, but being a Triode amp it has that typical sweet and detailed presentation but with serious punch and bass capability because it runs in Class A. More than enough grunt to drive big Tannoys and reckoned by the aficionados to be a perfect match for Quad panel speakers. Loads of on line reviews are available. I have the manual, box and packing but prefer to have it collected or meet-up in M3-M27-M25 sort of area. Price £2500.
  7. For sale on behalf of Lucasz, who was a member here, but it returning to Poland, and selling up Secondly is a MF 500Kw dual mono amp. complete with remote control and manual £1700 collected from Doncaster area
  8. Hello everyone, It's been a while but I hope you are all well. I've always had what I would consider to be a solid/modest mid-fi system. PC/Tidal > Cambridge Audio Dac Magic > Marantz PM8003 > Bowers and Wilkins CM7 with good quality power/speaker cables, interconnects and very conscious speaker placement for listening sessions. Room size 3.5m(D) x 4m(W) x 2.6m(H) Pretty much my dream set-up for a good 6 years and have had some great times with it. I recently heard my bothers new Amphion Two18 studio set-up, I was blown away. At the same time, I borrowed my friends entry-level Stax set-up consisting of SR - 207 Earspeakers and SRM -252S energiser/amp. (the speed of electrostatics!) Again, blown away. The overall impression I got was how resolving both systems are. Everything was bigger and better - Not just frequencies but the placement of instruments, depth of the music, details such as the sustain of reverbs on the vocals. You get the idea. I've been a musician for 20 years (but still learning to listen) and it made me realise that I was missing the true sound that the creator(s) wanted his or her work to be like. The whole process of making music takes a huge deal of time/effort and talent for musicians/engineers/mixers/mastering engineers to craft the end product and I'm guessing that all we truly want is to be in the (mix) room with them - the truest representation of how they intended it to be - with no loss of resolution in every department. I felt like I never got the whole picture, in this case, sound. I guess I'm ready to get into high-end sound. With that being said, and with a budget of £1k - 2k. What would give me the most tangible improvements? Dac, amp or speaker? List of potential gear I'm eyeing out: Speakers: Bowers and Wilkins 804S Amp: Yamaha A-S 1100 / A-S 2100 Dac: Mytek Brooklyn v1 Spotted most if not all in the used market. Thanks for your time and input. Always appreciated.

Seeking amp advice - New to vinyl system

Hi guys, I've come to the forum for advice after recommendations of being one of the best UK hifi/audio forums around. I'm finally looking to join the vinyl gang, it's been a long time coming. A lot of gear has changed since I first did some research on this so I'm brushing up on what might be some decent entry hardware. My budget is about £500. My mind is in two at the moment, I don't need to fill an auditorium, just an average 5x5 size room but I do want it to be a very unobtrusive, small footprint system. Here's what I've pieced together for best quality with little footprint: Pro-Ject Audio Systems Primary Phono USB Hi-Fi Turntable £228 Q Acoustics 3020 Compact Bookshelf Speaker £179 Total £407 What I'm looking for is an amp to suit, I don't have a lot of cash left over so I've been looking at mini T amps. The Topping TP23 gets a mention in THIS article on The Master Switch. They actually recommend the Orb Audio Mini-T but it's not available in the UK or costly to ship. It will save me a lot of cash and seems to get a good wrap but its about the only recommendation I can find on it which is why I'm coming to you. What are your thoughts on cheap amps for this setup, keeping in mind the smallest footprint possible? Or Should I go the ultra-compact route, forget the amp and speakers and get a pair of Audioengine A2+ Speakers? And upgrade later in life when I want more from my vinyl. All thoughts welcome.
  10. Our latest shipment of AudioValve components has arrived, including the sensational Solaris DAC & Headphone Amp. Find out more about some of the German brand's best products below. AudioValve Solaris DAC & Headphone Amp, RRP: £4,827 The AudioValve Solaris- DAC, based on the concept of the LUMINARE, has extended equipment features like balance - control, a remote control with integrated for volume, more inputs and has been adapted for RKV 3. The AudioValve Solaris is a state of the art tube headphone/pre amplifier capable of driving Electrostatic, Planar Magnetic and Dynamic headphone to their full potential offering superb results and now has the same connection options as the LUMINARE whilst offering twice the performance on all outputs which on average is 8 to 12 Watts per channel, depending on the headphones' impedance. AudioValve Baldur 300 Mono Power Amps, RRP: £22,000 AudioValve Baldur 300 Mono Power Amps provide more power, more quality and more music enjoyment. Provided with a first class high capacitive condenser bank and a premium high accurate output multi-layer transformer with access for 4, 6 and 8 ohms, this unit is more than first grade. More than 15 years of experience have lead to this excellent product which trumps even the excellent functions of his predecessor, the Baldur 300. The distinguished technique is even more improved and filed. Only the best, most expensive and highest quality components were used in production. AudioValve Assistent 50 Integrated Amp, RRP: £4,224 AudioValve did not avoid expenses nor troubles to develop a new unit based on the trusted basics, which allows for the demand for "more performance and comfort." Just like before, today power tubes type QQE are employed, but 8 tubes - four per channel, developing full 2 x 50 Watts, reflecting a sound transparency that was and still is proverbial for this series. Besides all the technological innovations, especially the casing design offers several surprises. No controls on the front panel, 3D-lasered and lit writing in the amplifier's transparent front look hardly show what wave of innovation forms the basis of the product and will give you the expected joy for many years to come. With these features AudioValve without doubt is trend-setting. Elite Audio are the official UK distributor for AudioValve. We offer an excellent 30-day, no risk trial on selected products allowing you to try out audio components at home with your own system. A generous part exchange is also available allowing you to upgrade for less. To find out how much your old hi-fi components are worth, take our part exchange challenge now.
