Loud and Clear on St Vincent Street (0141 221 0221) are big Moon dealers.

Or try Renaisssance in Edinburgh who are the importers (0131 555 3922)

I was told my 600i integrated could not be damaged by being turned on without speakers attached but I the I-5 may be different. Good luck. It's a good amp, I hope you can get it fixed.

Thanks Haggis, Loud and Clear is where I bought it. They will be my first port of call when they open on tuesday morning. But I'm not sure if they do in house repairs? I guess I'll just have to wait and see really.
My daughter could smash a toy off the oled tv and it wouldnt bother me in the slightest, I could total my car tomorrow and it wouldn't matter. But the amp has a lot of value to me. Be a real shame if its dead :(

Even if the unloaded channel was shorted I’d have expected the Moon to simply cut out.  However, I’m not familiar with its circuitry or fusing, so I suggest you find the manual and see what it says.

You might find if you unplug the amp, connect speakers properly, then switch on, all will be well.  Or a simple fuse has blown. It definitely shouldn’t self destruct for such a basic event.

Thanks Nopiano, Switched it all off, disconnected then reconnected everything then switched back on but still not sound from left channel.

I'm praying its something simple and cheap to fix..

  3. Pains me to say it but theres now no sound coming from the left channel on my Moon i-5

I had unplugged my speakers to test an unused set before selling them.
Went to play music today and there was no sound. I realised I'd forgot to plug the speakers back in. Plugged them back in but theres now no sound from the left channel.

I'm wondering if the act of switching on the amp with no speakers attached to the cables has damaged the amp in someway? Cables were lying on the carpet. not sure if they were touching at the contacts or not.

Is this likely repairable? First time I've ever had a problem like this. No idea if its an easy fix or now an expensive paper weight.
I'm absolutely gutted. Love the amp more than my wife.

I'm in Glasgow. Who's best bet to take it in for assessment?

  5. I bought a printer about 5 years ago. Cheap banger that cost about £40 in Curries. Think its a Canon or something, I honestly cant remember. It came with a usb cable that I now use to connect my Mac Mini to my DAC. The cable must have a cash value of less than twenty pence.

    Sounds absolutely perfect.

  6. We just moved into a new place and I got the bonus of a fantastic audio room. I have owned my big ADAM's for coming up to 7 yrs but they have never had room to breathe like this. Sounds staggeringly awesome, ordered a test tones CD so I can Eq a bass suckout and then the neighbours better watch out :)

    Holy shit! That room! :notworthy:

Also love the framed 'Shape Of Punk To Come'. Refused were absolutely my favourite band growing up. I was about 15 when I first heard them and developed an obsession with the band. The Marxist sentiments and that amazing sound deeply appealed to the young me.

When they reformed, their first gig was played in their home town. But the gig was to happen on the day I was getting married. I considered the possibility of a wedding in the AM and then a flight and rocking out in the PM... But it never happened. Well the wedding happened but the flight to Sweden didn't.

But my obsession with them has somewhat diminished since I was 15. They actually played here in Glasgow just a few weeks ago. I'd longed to see them live when I was young. As teenagers me and my friend always talked about how amazing it would have been to see them live. But I had conflicting feelings about them reforming and decided not to attend the gig. Work and a young family also factored into the decision I suppose. But instead, in the evening when I got home from work, I listened to Shape Of Punk To Come and reflected on the simpler times of being a teenager. In strange way I was happy I didn't go to the gig...

  7. I don't remember the very first time I heard an album called dark side of the moon. But I do remember the very first time I listened to it while stoned out my box.

For a long time rolling joints and listening to music went hand in hand. Ritualistic it was.

But its been a number of years now since I've had the joy of a bifter and an album together. Slowly things like becoming more grown up, marriage, career and having children all ensured the end of those good old days.

I take comfort knowing that, say in maybe 17 years or so, the offspring will be kicked out and I'll have the place to my self again and I'll skin up and stick on dark side of the moon again.

  8. Ive got a 55VT50. Nothing quite like a good quality blu ray with the lights out. Its going to be a long time before theres anything that can match the image quality of the last gen panny plasma's.

OLED will hopefully mature over the years but currently it still suffers the same poor motion resolution as LCD.
