WTD: SME Screening can bolts for 3009

These are unlikely to be metric threads. The 3009 dates from the 1960’s. More likely to be BA threads. Probably 6BA if they are around 3mm diameter, or 8BA if around 2mm diameter. I have some different BA screws, PM your address and I will put some in the post for you. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

    Audiophile Servers.

Why indeed. I am using a six year old Dell Precision server that I was given after it was replaced with a new server at work. I fitted a new 2TB hard disk and installed Vortexbox with LMS and the Linux version of Roon Core. It sounds fabulous streaming Qobuz and my music library via Roon to a Devialet 440 Pro on wired Ethernet. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

    Jordan jx92 wanted.

I have a pair of JX92S in some small diy cabinets no longer being used. The cabinets are the Jim Griffin bass reflex design. PM me if they are of interest. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  7. When I bought my Palmer 2.5 turntable Jon Palmer gave me some advice about bearing oil, and that was to avoid motor oils due to the additives that were in them. Those additives can adhere to the bearing surfaces in low temperature low rpm bearings causing the bearing to tighten over a period of time. Jon’s recommendation was to use a basic machine tool slideway oil as there are no additives and it can support high loads. I use an ISO 32 slideway oil in my Palmer 2.5 bearing. Windows vs Linux

Yes, I have a Vortexbox server, which is Linux based, running LMS. I installed the Linux version of Roon core on it. It’s been running faultlessly for over a year, it updates automatically, usually within a few seconds, no reboots needed. It just works and sounds brilliant. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  11. I was about to make my way back to the car whilst out shopping in Banbury yesterday when I passed a new shop I had not seen before. It's located at the entrance of a small shopping arcade in the quieter end of Banbury High Street. I could easily have walked right past but for the fact that I spotted a rather interesting looking turntable on a table through the open French doors which drew me into the doorway. On venturing inside I was welcomed by Ahmet Kip, reviewer, HiFi Journalist and now Hifi dealer. Ahmet offered me a seat on the sofa in the showroom and to have a listen. In front of me was an array of Raidho speakers. A pair of the D-2.1, a pair of the D-1.1 and another smaller piano white pair the X-1's. On the rack in the front of the room between the speakers was an Aavik U300 class D integrated amplifier, an Ypsilon Phaethon integrated amplifier, an Ypsilon CDT-100 CD, a Thorens TD 550 turntable with an IKEDA IT-407 tonearm, a ZYX Ultimate Omega cartridge, and an Ypsilon VPS-100 LCR phono stage. Ahmet played some Wagner on the CDT-100 through the Ypsilon amplifier and the Raidho D-2.1 speakers. The sound was stunning with a massive soundstage extending way behind above and to the sides of the speakers. Quite easily among the best I've ever heard. Ahmet and I talked and listened to music for over an hour. I did not get to hear the turntable though as I ran out of time. It turns out Ahmet has only just opened the showroom, which is called Pythagoras Audio, and he is still working on fitting it out and tuning the sound of the room. It's well worth a visit if you are in the vicinity of Banbury. Its located at Unit 2B White Lion Walk, 64-65 High Street, Banbury OX16 5JJ. Just to say I have absolutely no connection with the business, I came upon it quite by chance and I was made very welcome.

Depending on which phono stage you have? Replacing the ECC83's in the gain stages with 5751's can sometimes give a sonic improvement. The 5751 has slightly less gain than the ECC83, but if you can live with that it's worth a try. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Black & Silver Discs OR Streaming /Downloads. What's your 'bag'?

I have an average collection of vinyl collected over forty plus years. My taste in music has changed a great deal over those forty years, but I still have all my Led Zep and Pink Floyd etc from all those years ago, but they rarely get played nowadays as I prefer opera, classical and 50's jazz now. I bought a CD player when they first appeared and I have a CD collection that has all been ripped to FLAC. If I buy CD's now it's only from charity shops. The majority of my listening now is streaming from my own collection of ripped CD's or from Qobuz. I have LMS and Roon installed on a Vortexbox server that runs headless from my shed. I'm not sure why some folks find the streaming thing difficult, or to quote, 'shit'. Setting up a vortexbox is a doddle and installing Roon is a little less of a doddle, but easily done. I use iPeng and the Roon control for selecting and playing music both of which are brilliant for finding and playing music. I'm using Roon to stream directly via Ethernet cable using Devialet Air protocol to a Devialet 220 Pro. The sound quality of well recorded and mastered digital is outstanding. I use iPeng to connect my Logitech Transporter to Stream Qobuz. This I use for discovering and listening to new music, and it's absolutely brilliant for doing that. I'm finding that I am using vinyl less and less now as although some material sounds really very good a lot of it is significantly inferior. My vinyl setup has slowly evolved over the years and I dread to think how much I have spent to get where I am now, but sad to say my vinyl enjoyment is slowly being eclipsed by modern digital reproduction.

    Palmer audio

Yes, I have to agree it does look, well erm, 'rather agricultural'. But judge ye not on looks alone. It sounds better than any other tone arm I have tried on the Palmer. It's also very easy to set up and align a cartridge perfectly, no faffing around with alignment protractors and mirrors. I have a spare wand set up with a second cartridge which I can change in a few minutes if desired.
