    DIY Townsend Seismic Speaker Platform

By way of an update. I ordered three types of springs and had confirmation that only two were in stock. I’ve now received the two types of springs they had and good to their word my full purchase costs have been refunded. Also promised to send me free of charge the other springs when they are a stock item. My faith has been restored. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

HUGE VINYL and CD SELL OFF

Also visited Julian’s at the weekend and came away with a box of LP’s. Had a couple of cups of tea and a listen to those beautiful Cabasse speakers. Hopefully have another visit in a week or so.

I had an email today saying s401 springs were out of stock and they would be sending me the rest of the order and refunding me in full as their service hadn’t measured up to what they strive to achieve. Aparently they are closed on Friday pm so no chance of response then. I’ll keep you posted if I get the response, but otherwise I agree with being careful.

Pretty sure the three different types I ordered were “in stock” as well. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

If any consolation I ordered some springs at the same time and mine haven't arrived either. Chased twice by email and got a response on the second one saying that some items were out of stock and I'd get an update on Monday. Fingers crossed.

It doesn’t cost anything for a second opinion/exchange of ideas.

Robbyd is the one to ask really, but I borrowed 4 x s428 (from the website link) for a pair of speakers that weighed about 22kg from him. I may be wrong, but the way I calculated it was work out how much compression there was (Length - Approx solid height), this gives the amount of movement (I was cautious and rounded this down). Divide this by 25.4 to get back to inches. Multiply this figure by the Rate (lb per inch) and divided by 2.2. This should give the weight that each spring should handle. I've been cautious and taken a few mm off the travel distance just to be sure. Using the above calculation on the s428 gives about 5.8kg per spring.

I use Max current designs under my speakers and have a couple of his latest platforms under my Townshend Rock turntables. A long while ago "robbyd" lent me some springs to try under a pair of speakers in a second (or third system). I've finally got round to ordering some springs today from: https://www.coilspringsdirect.com/stock-compression-springs/ I ordered 26 springs (two times 8 springs of different loads for speakers and ten smaller springs to try under some equipment, including delivery this cost £54, a lot more reasonable than people think. Definitely worth a try..........

There is also a thread entitled “Isolation on the cheap” in the 2 channel part of the forum from February 2018 that might also be worth a look (up to the point the thread got a little hi jacked). Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Do you have to make the bars, couldn’t you opt for ‘platforms’ with springs under each corner and a piece of wood/metal under your speaker? Potentially much simpler..... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
