  1. I'm a bit of a noob to MF. I sold my Naim 252/300 system couple of years back and I'm using an M6Si. I find it amazing; part may be due to having a ceramic tiled floor an an electricity substation nearby, but I am very pleased with it. I'll shortly be in a position to upgrade and I am v tempted by the M8 Encore 500; apart from anything else I fancy getting into streamed music. Current CDP a Naim CDX2. I also have a reasonable spec LP12, Akiva, Ekos 2 etc and it looks like this box will be able to accommodate it. Other source a Sony ST-A7B tuner, and a Nakamichi 680ZX which I don't really use... Anyone heard the M8 Encore 500?
  2. Well.. I'm delighted to have found an MF thread... As some know, I was a Naim fan for many years. I had to sell my 252/300 combo a couple of years ago, and I now run an MF6Si. I'm genuinely astonished and delighted at how good it sounds. No doubt some of the SQ improvement is due to a house move and it now resting on massive ceramic tiles, but its awesome and I'm wondering if I'll ever feel the need to go back to Naim. For fairness I should try 252/300 in my new place, but the MF is so good I'm not sure I really need to... As always, what next in the MF hierarchy? Using a Naim CDX2, LP12 / Ekos 2 / Akiva...
  3. Been a long time... MF found a fault in a circuit board and repaired it for cost of labour only. I've had it back for some months and am blown away at how good this combo is. I previously ran a Naim 252/300 system. This one is now on a much better floor but even so, I'm struggling to find an area in which I can feel the gargantuan gulf in cost can be justified. For fairness I should of course try a 252/300 in my new place, but that'd be quite a chunk of money... Will be investigating MF for the future.
  4. SQ on the CD is awesome. I've not been able to listen to the vinyl yet but expect it'll be superb too, Saw it at the flicks and wasn't impressed, to be honest - but most likely just a C- sound system, played at moderate volume only. The 3rd Bowie box set arrived same day. I'm supposed to be studying...
  5. Hurrah! The Akiva cost around £2k new so could be money well spent...
  6. Although my main listening is red book CD, I do have an LP12 with an Akiva which a) cost an arm and a leg and b) sounds lovely. I've had it for some time now and realise that at some stage I'll need to replace it. I know its not made any more. Does anyone know if "modern" carts are technically or sonically "superior" to older ones? Or has any improvement been met by an old-fashioned price increase?
  7. Hola muchachos Tweeters arrived from Falcon, sequential numbers. Henry Hifi Repair Man kindly wired them in for me, given I don't trust myself to do it. First impressions are good; a much sweeter sound than it had been and k.d. Lang sounds as lovely as she should. However, once I've had the music on for an hour or so, the grainy sound returns... So I've swapped amps; swapped CDPs and have come to the conclusion that its my Musical Fidelity M6si that is the issue. I've phoned them and its on its way back to them for testing etc... But the tweeters do, to my ears, sound better...
  8. Hello you thundering bigot. I miss you.
  9. Really appreciate this info, DDD. I think I'll do just what you say and, given I don't trust my DIY abilities, I'll phone Henry TopRepairMan and ask if I can book an hour of his time... PS - "Falcon" - is this the guy behind the eBay link you very kindly included above? EDIT - two tweeters ordered. They pair numbers automatically.

  12. I'm starting to get a little dubious about the need to have "matched" tweeters @ 3x the price: elsewhere I read that its not really audible anyway... Opinions?
  13. Good man. The Naim price is >£200 EACH, they say they're tested ( "a lot don't come up to spec") and matched but even so.... Been listening to eg. R4 at low volume and also Beatles Mono (vinyl.) The former does sound slightly muffled on one speaker; notable when I remove the HF feed to the tweeter that one isn't as loud as the other. Playing the Beatles last night some screachy sound was heard at medium volume so it reall does look like a tweeter issue...
  14. I've looked through Naim and although John mentioned his XOs going off, the more people I speak to about it, the more likely it is that the problem is the tweeters... They're around £200 each so I don't want to cough onless I'm sure... Anyone in Berkshire have SBLs willing to put their tweeters on my SBLs for certainty?
