  1. I have a MDSM and I “exakt” out into an exakt box 10. My thoughts are: one day when funds are tight and I have to sell up (or upgrade) I would probably find it easier to sell my MDSM to someone who needs an all in 1 box solution. But to sell a Akurate hub would be to a more “specialist” listener who would be spending further on exakt box etc, and this would be more of a challenge. I’m uncertain if the hub does sound better than a MDSM (exakt out) because I’m satisfied with my sound so far and I believe the difference would be quite minimal compared to other upgrades. I think at some point with this kit you have to be careful that it’s expense makes it a specialist market, as I’ve been burned before trying to sell off stuff in the past. 2. Does anyone know if MDSM uses or have AptX? Opinion anyone? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Anyone tried Schiit Eitr Usb to spdif? (Or any other ideas) Getting bored of waiting for Linn to implement Amazon (so called) HD Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. My 4K fire stick is 16bit max also. Dreams of 24bit steaming at a reduced price fading away, unless Linn get their finger out and implement it in Kazoo Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. So if I stick an Amazon fire tv 3rd gen (diamond shaped dangly dongle) in the HDMI of my MDSM does it stream 24bit? The amazon 4K fire stick is only capable 16bit as it’s a 16bit device (so it says on the menu) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. It better, as amazon will now be the new streaming standard everything else will be judged at. Qobuz is just for specialist audiophiles who want the best sound and are willing to cough up £25 per month (DSM owners). Tidal doesn’t compete as the catalogue just isn’t good enough (not good enough as far as classical is concerned which is what I’m assuming Harrods customers would like). And as far as Apple Music is concerned this box of tricks better have airplay 2 or it won’t be good enough for people in the ios system. Let’s hope naim don’t beat Linn with amazon hd because if this happens this new product will struggle with the competition. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. I bought an amazon fire tv box 2nd gen from CeX £60. I wanted the “box” type as supposed to stick as it has an Ethernet connection. I plugged this box into the hdmi input of my MDSM. The amazon music app updated and displays hd and ultra hd. I think it sounds great. I used to subscribe to Qobuz top tier 24bit streaming but it’s just too expensive. Amazon offers (in my opinion) more cd and 24 bit music than Qobuz, it’s deffo worth trying with their free trial. Tbh I’m not sure if Qobuz offers superior sound or vice versa but I’m very happy with amazon and happy to use this service now above any other because of the HD content. Also forgot to mention you can upload Kodi onto it, so it’s a double plus for my needs. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. I think they don’t want to upset Tidal/Qobuz business. Qobuz is good but a bit overpriced. They really should have anticipated this as it’s inevitable that the only further direction streaming will go is high res. For a company that goes on about “high quality” sound this is kinda slack. Maybe the software does take ages to sort, but if you look at the other manufacturers participating and listed on amazon site you would have thought Linn would have prepared better. 9. Looking at the partnered manufacturers looks like Linn late to the party again! Got an old raspberry pi with hdmi output thru MDSM, will that work? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. The problem with upgrading is that it’s all too tempting to just keep spending, when we should be enjoying the music. I just went to exaktbox 10. I bought it 2nd hand because I just can’t afford brand new. Now of course Katalyst is next, but I believe that I should get a good year or two before dropping any more coin no matter how good the next step is, because there will always be another step to take. I’m trying not buying any more hardware until I get good value from each upgrade and I’m not doing anything until space 2 gets released for exakt and then maybe waiting another year to appreciate that “upgrade” in sound. Don’t get me wrong I love this hobby, but I believe getting as much value from each step is important bearing in mind this kit really is quite expensive. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Don’t take this the wrong way but I think you are missing the point of Linn speakers: you need to ask yourself are you listening to the music or the hifi. I own a goodish Linn system (exaktbox 10 and 242’s) and when I listen to my Apple EarPods on some music there definitely is more bass in the pods, but the main system offers something more: It offers the ability to appreciate Jaco Pastorius (Don Juan reckless daughter LP), Mark king (level 42’s 1st LP), Stanley Clarke (school days), Aston Barrett (uprising LP) and even John Barbirolli’s Mahler 5th, yes there is bass in classical!! etc . Linn speakers are designed to give you “the tune” to teach you about music, so if you are looking for quantity wall shaking bass then you are better off ditching the briks and getting a bass oriented speaker (Bose, Cerwin Vega etc). My advice would be for you to go to a dealer and listen to a current Linn set up and you will definitely not hear “quantity bass”. Especially if they are using the latest kit with space optimisation (which does rob the system of bass but gives more music) If you want to keep the briks then you deffo need a better source than a Yamaha if buying a quality Naim amp, a Linn dealer will give good advice. Sorry to ramble, but I’ve been involved with this kit for decades and I always hear people say “not enough bass”. Try to forget the Hi-fi and listen to the music and musicians and you will get more from your system, and this will be better in the years to come for you instead of trying to fulfil an appetite for bottom end which may never be satisfied. 12. Isobariks were great speakers but revealing. If the source doesn’t have the bass in the 1st place then if you just buy a better amp you still won’t get it at the speaker end. Out of interest what source you using? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Thanks Timster, it was the cable! Don’t know how all of the sudden it stopped working. The mrs was cleaning around so maybe she pulled it. Wonder if she pulled it hard enough to break the contact?! I was hoping this recent update would be SO2. I went from aktiv SO2 to Exaktbox SO1 and I would say the presentation of sound from SO2 is so good i really miss it. Getting really impatient for SO2 update for Exaktbox. 14. All working fine last night but now nothing. Tried off and on a couple of times, just no sound now because it’s not in Konfig anymore. I’ll leave it for a bit, if no change might call the HQ 2moro. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
