  1. Bobovox, tuga, many thanks for your replies. Good point on the different BB DAC. Still having a think Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk
  2. Hi folks, Anyone used one of these. I currently use (sometimes) a PI to stream FLAC files (from) via DLNA using an Arcam UDP411 for the DLNA and DAC output. The DSP side of the HiFiBerry got my curiosity as having recently moved house the new living room acoustics aren't brill. I notice both the HiFiBerry and the Arcam use a Brown Burr DACs but not sure which? Thoughts appreciated Thanks Sent from my HUAWEI VNS-L31 using Tapatalk
  3. It is certainly possible it is the mains, and that the transformer within the A85 (Toroidal) is more susceptible to mains problems. We shall see this wknd Forgot to add, it is definitely a mechanical buzz/hum from within the amp. Speaker wise it's clean as a whistle. Sent from my HTC One M9 using Tapatalk
  4. For those interested. I have stuck with the A29. Given the right music this absolutely shines, smooth, excellent detailed sound, and just wants to go. I'm not a fan of overly bright amps, I have had Arcam since the release of the Alpha7R and enjoy their warm sound. I still think the A85 is a fabulous amp. I do have one issue which I will be quizzing Arcam on. The transformer noise/hum is distinctly loud, and louder than the A85. I took one amp back to swap for another, the replacement is unfortunately exactly the same. Which leads me to believe it is inherent by design. 99% of the time you can't hear this, however classical music at low volume or quite patches you can.
  5. Interesting thoughts, the DF query was out of pure curiosity. There are so many conflicting details regarding the merit or not of having a higher damping factor. For me this would certainly at some point fall into personal preference, depending on the music you listen to. The jury is still out on the A29. There is certainly an addition to the bass content over the A85 when listening to some song and certainly films - in some ways a little artificial. That said it's a little more detailed and a better sound stage. Not sure whether to persevere and see if it improves (currently on week 2) or stick with the A85. We will see
  6. Anyone know what the damping factor is of the A29? Sent from my HTC One M9 using Tapatalk
  7. Sorry to continue an old post but, on a similar note. and for one reason and another I have just upgraded from the Arcam A85 to the A29. The A85 is a fabulous amp. i have had this since 2003 and it has never put a foot wrong. The only thing I will say is that I thought in some cases it lacked a little bass and definition. Having now just switched to the A29 I seem to be experiencing more bass, which in some songs compliments but others it overwhelms. I may end up keeping the A85. The trial continues. Regards
