thanks for all the pointers, I had a good play around with my existing speakers, and had some success with toeing them in to cross in front of my listening position. however I still had s bit if s itch to scratch, so....brought these

cheers guys, I did some more critical listening last night, normally I'd just switch it on and listen. warm up time! I know stuff needs to warm up but I'm thinking more like an hour now, not 10 minuits like I thought before. been playing with toe, and never had them crossing in front of me, just going from dead straight to crossing just behind, I will give that a try asap. profile updated, thanks for the heads up. i thought chumpy's post had gone through a bad Google translate. Will keep you posted

ok, so forgive me if my terminology is off, I did a few back to backs with the pre amps and found the arc to be clearer, more definition to the to the music, without being harsh. not so much swapping of the power amps, in fact only in and out once. but the arc was more musical if that makes sense. I found it easier to listen to. I haven't heard any of the other speakers, I was just going of reviews and comments, which is kind of why I asked. I'm more than happy to buy some speakers and then sell them on if it turns out Ive make a mistake (looking at ozzy's list with this in my mind) if i can do this without loosing money that would be preferable.

I do hope I didn't seem ungrateful fuzzy, and while my use of the word vintage might not have been well received I'm sitting here trying to think of another one to sum up your collection that might not be met with as much contempt. and I can't. I am genuinely grateful though. as has been pointed out, my current speakers like the other two I mentioned are slimish floor standard, might I say minimalist. I am intrigued as to my options with the tannoy's though, and i am happy to have a bash at diy. although i have in the past looked for options in this area and drawn a blank.

wow! thanks for your work. I'll be honest, non of those would have been on my radar. mainly, and I feel a bit bad about this, due to how they look. they will be going in my lounge and I'm not sure the vintage look will get passed the boss. thanks and sorry mate.

interesting 're the 602 s3 as I have a pair I gave to my dad when putting a system together for him. might do a swap with the r3's and give them another listen then. I also made a offer on the proac 125's on eBay the minuit but my £350 offer got knocked back. thanks guys 👍

hi, I've been lucky enough to be given/perminatly loaned some audio research gear, naimly a LS7 and D200. they have replaced a feliks audio espressivo and a meridian 556. I am itching to replace my tannoy revolution r3's, in a search for more sound stage and a speaker more capable and in keeping with my new found front end. I will have £200 to add to what ever I get for the r3's, £150-£200 fingers crossed. open to any advice. I was just out bid on some rouark talisman 3, so you know the kind of thing I like. cheers adie

    critique my amp

hi, I've been given this amp by my father in law and i dont know anything about the internal workings of an amp. it would replace my meridian 555. board is a maplin 50w. he is well in to his hifi and could well have improved this over time. he is now using an audio research amp. i don't want to seem ungrateful as he gives me most of his old stuff that makes up part of my current system. pics
