  2. Altmann BYOB amplifier

Just come across this. It appears that Brexit has hit this product VERY hard. It's currently at 8200 Euro. Two please...
  3. ESP P101 Stereo Power Amp Build

You're going to the wrong restaurants
  4. DIY Speaker Photographs. Please add yours.

Here's mine. Like Dave's above, they're an AVi clone sort of thing (pretty sure I gave Dave the crossover schematic that I designed?).
  5. System to play dance music <£1k

Naim is very good at dance music. I think you'll struggle getting Neats and Densen for a grand though? If going the Naim route I'd go 72/140 and Credos over the Linns if you have the space for em.
  6. (Older) spkr ideas.. for naim 140.

Another shout for Epos. The ES11s or 14s are both brilliant. Had 11s with my 72/hicap/140 combo for quite a while and loved em.
  7. M-Audio DX4 replacement tweeters.

A google search says that this allegedly what you're after. http://www.parts-express.com/peerless-by-tymphany-oc25sc65-04-1-textile-dome-tweeter--264-1018
  8. M-Audio DX4 replacement tweeters.

    Have you asked M-Audio?
  9. Replacement XOver for Naim SBLs?

What Duncan said. Not difficult to sort out at all.
  10. ESP P101 Stereo Power Amp Build

Makes sense. But like you say, only one way to find out if there's an audible difference.
  11. ESP P101 Stereo Power Amp Build

    Why don't they like it?
  12. Amp with digital inputs

What about picking up a used item? A Primare i22 should be possible for a grand, with optional digital input card.
  13. I have one of these in black and they are really something quite special! Good luck with the sale :-)
  14. New vinyl and it's perceived quality

    I use a weight, so that's moot.
  15. New vinyl and it's perceived quality

180g vinyl is foo. The grooves aren't any deeper, so what exactly is the point? Sounds better my arse!
  16. "Newbie" with Arcam problem......

No, you don't want to use that link. That's to bridge the amp. Not what you're looking to achieve at all.
  17. Primare posse

Couldn't wait for a reply so pulled a "how much to end the auction early" eBay move and bagged a lovely A20 mk2 AND a D20 CD player for £425 all in. Just hooked the amp and my word. That'll do nicely! Just what I was after. Did I do OK price wise?
  18. "Newbie" with Arcam problem......

Ok, first off, you have two amps so you will be bi-amping, rather than bi-wiring. Again there's numerous debate about whether or not there are any benefits to this. In my experience there are some gains to be had, but it depends on your speakers/electronics. So, here's how to do it. First, remove the jumpers on your speakers (the metal plates or wires that go between the high frequency and low frequency inputs). Next take the speaker outputs from the power amp (290p) and connect them to the tweeter inputs on the speakers. Then take the speaker outputs form the integrated and connect them to the woofer inputs. And that's it. Job jobbed as they say.
  19. New vinyl and it's perceived quality

I still buy the "black crack". Only old stuff though, to be honest.
  20. New vinyl and it's perceived quality

    Yeah, it's called surface noise.
  21. New vinyl and it's perceived quality

I've purchased a few new pressing over the last few years and with 99.9% of em, they're all garbage after 10-20 plays. all crackly. I'm pretty anal when it comes to vinyl care. I have 40 year old pressings that I play regularly and they're all pretty much perfect. I'm now no longer buying new stuff if I can get it digitally. I can only assume that there's far less quality control these days. Probably being pressed out of floor sweepings... Addendum. More to the point pretty much all of it is produced using digital desks and mastered in computers. Hardly anybody records to 2 inch tape anymore.
  22. Primare posse

I'm looking at replacing my amp, currently an Audiolab 8000lx (odd model, basically an 8000a with the tone control and phono stage binned). I've been very impressed with the Audiolab, far more than I thought I would be. Took it in part ex a year or so ago and it's been with me ever since. However, it's definitely the weak link in my current setup and I have some cash burning a hole in my pocket. I've always liked the look and build of Primare kit and have had some experience of it, albeit quite sometime ago (2001). I've got my eye on an A20mk2 and have just seen an A30.1, that I'm hoping would fall into budget. The problem I have is I won't be able to audition them, so will be "buying blind". So based on what I have, would you say the sonic signature would be similar, but better? I'm after refined and neutral with a decent soundstage. Something the little Audiolab does rather well (I had decades of owning 2d Naim stuff, so I might be a bit naive in that respect). Lastly, what sort of price would either amp command? Thanks :-)
  23. Anyone know where this bit goes?

CDs started skipping. It annoyed me. I had 2 choices. Send it to Cyrus at a cost of £250 for repair, or do it meself. I chose the latter... New VAM1201 = £13 delivered. Might spend the other £237 on CDs. Back up and running :-)
  24. Anyone know where this bit goes?

The plinth was smoothed, filled and then repainted. It also has the strobe and 45 adapter hole removed
