When they developed the power generation system in for Apollo 11 they had a problem. The device works by mixing hydrogen and oxygen electrically in a power cell using platinum electrodes. The electrodes produce electrical power and the by-product was water that was fed to astronauts. Unfortunately, the water had extra dissolved gas in it which of course came out at inconvenient times. They, therefore, had to develop filters to remove the dissolved gases to avoid farts in suits.

Does rfi makes a system sound brighter?

Hi, Thanks for playing along. The suggestion earlier was that shielding of a power cable is to keep the RFI in and the job of any other screens, ferrites or whatever would be to keep any RFI out. Some items of hifi generate RFI. The window test is a complete red herring. I'm not talking about general atmospheric RFI as if it's some outdated (eg GSM) mobile signal. No-one haa suggested, to my knowledge, that RFI is directly audible in its own right. However, your consolidated back-of-rack does show that there is negigible RFI present. That suggests that your combination of components and cables would not benefit from additional steps to reduce RFI. Extrapolation to other setups is just that - quite possibly valid, quite possibly not - so one should proceed with caution. Regards, TheFlash
  12. I placed my LP12 in the jig and checked if I had the problem and I discovered that the screw in the Trampolin were in touch with the motor case. Took a Dremel and cut down appr. 1.3mm. Fastened the Trampolin and still there was not space for a sheet of paper. Off with the Tramp again, untightened all 4 screws, then tightened the bolt under the motor tight first and then the 3 other screws. Fastened the Trampolin and now the sheet came out with no friction. The space left is definitely under 1mm. The height of the plinth is 64.9mm. My Trampolin 2 is made before Linn rotated the screw holes 45 degrees to avoid the problem.

Could improve their sound output, hence the debate between JA and AN over the sound output of the speakers? JA rated their 'efficiency' lower as he measures speakers out in the room. AN argued they are designed for corner loading and therefore their sound output per watt would be higher. They then debated what effect that would give, an extra 3db, an extra 6db or....

Proac tablette style speakers- name that tweeter?

Your explanation of baffle step is very clear, now I’ve read it again. Hard to know if the builder designed them for wall placement, but if I can stretch my cables, I may be able to (temporarily )find out!

Corner-loading doesn't seem to make much of a difference in Dudley's room, the sub-200Hz response is equally awful: Harbeth M40.1, spatially averaged in-room response in AD's room (red trace); Audio Note AN-E/SPe HE, spatially averaged in-room response in AD's room (blue). What you heard was a placebo you see as measurements show that it is not possible for your amp to pick up radio breakthrough as those the levels are too low. And those amp designers who take steps to make their amps less susceptible are just trying to rook you with their fancy expensive circuits.

Yea, especially as the Audionote Es are designed to be put into the corners of the room. The room response is er....key.... No need for any measurements. Room response is key. But the ANEs are designed to work that way. It makes their response more consistent that way. Clever eh?

The mids from a good DHT SET are certainly spectacular, but bass and top end don't have to be compromised. That's usually based on experience with cheap transformers or designs.

It's strange, TdP is actually an excellent designer, but sometimes I genuinely think he likes to do things 'despite' rather than 'because'. Has to be said, mind, that he gets hellishly good results a lot of the time. I'm no great fan of the 834, but the 912 is pretty much a reference grade phono stage.

    WAVE High Fidelity Cables

The interesting thing is that the dCs clock is not in the signal path and there is only (as far as I know) the clock signal going down that BNC cable and into the DAC. The customer had tried various other BNC cables with no real effect and that is why he was so surprised at what the WAVE Storm was doing. An excellent result.

No they don't - the Sugden sounds more valve like they do not sound similar. Hence as I keep saying .. trust your ears and yes your ears may prefer SETs but too many the compromise on the limited choice of loudspeakers rules them out. The thing is SET to my ears is all about the mids and low end highs but we all have our preferences. I used to think only Electrostatics could produce the sound I liked best (Acoustat 4x) until I heard the Art Impressions.

    WAVE High Fidelity Cables

WAVE cables and the dCs clock. A visitor to the WAVE room at Cranage asked if he could borrow a single WAVE cable to try with his dCs clock. I sent him the Stream and Storm cables to try and he has just telephoned and was very excited to tell me the huge improvement he could hear. Details he said he had never heard before on tracks, the music is less fatiguing and for the first time he can turn the volume up without it ever feeling loud. He has just bought the STORM cable and is sending the STREAM cable back.

Thanks for checking, so no difference on or off then. From your first graph by the cable it wasn't clear if it may have been showing RF radiated by the cable but apparently not . Whether the power levels you can measure are 'low' or not I still don't think categorically proves anything though.

A couple of tele valves in push pull is way off the type of valve amp I would consider building. so yes I can well believe they sound similar.
