Easy to use digital compact

3 posts in this topic

I am looking for a camera to buy my uncle for his birthday.

It must be easy to use for a chap with thick fingers who has worked all his life in a manual job and so has lost some feeling.

Also he won't want to mess about setting ISO or focal etc - point and click.

Will be used on day trips and holidays mainly, days out with my Mum and mainly outdoors. A reasonable zoom would be nice and also ability to take decent shots in evening light.

Price - I am flexible, happy with circa £80 but could strech if the extra buys a good improvement. Oh - that is to include memory card, not sure if they usually come with them or not.

Any thoughts/recomendations?

for that kind of money, I think a Nikon is probably a good bet. The Coolpix L11 is quite large (compared to some), easy to use, has a decent (3X) zoom and works well in low light, with ISO settings to 800. If you can stretch to around 120, one of the Panasonics with image stabilisation makes low light shooting an even safer bet, but I suspect the robuster build of the Nikon might suit Unc more.:)

i have a Nikon coolpix for this kind of thing. It takes very sharp pictures. See this taken by me with Nikon coolpix 4200 in point and shoot mode:
