FS: Early Linn LP12 - with propped lid - all original.

11 posts in this topic

Early Linn LP12 with propped lid and red neon rocker switch.

Just serial number 003403! So a very early one.

All working very well. Afromosia fluted plinth, Linn mounting, lid is good although full of light scratches (I might find time to polish these out) - no cracks. Hinges are all there too.

Has original Linn rubber mat and the felt on the underside of the platter too. Also comes with a BIB dustbug (the mounting for that is at the back and I have the rest of it to fit).

Asking just £320 - trying to clear some space!

Happy to ship if you are, double boxed - have some good paper honeycomb pieces to protect the lid.

Buyer looks like they were a dealer and sold it on for £479 ...

Just goes to show there are bargains on here! And how I should be selling things on eBay instead.. Oh well.

Edit: Buyer wasn't a forum member, in case there's the assumption he was.

Yeah but it sucks a bit when you think you might be doing someone else a favour. If everyone put their kit up at 'book price' then forum classifieds would be very slow moving. If you ask X and you get X then it's easy to say that you shouldn't complain but as you said yourself, next time you might not bother with HFWW and just get the best price in the open market so this forum loses a future thread and the members lose the opportunity to nab a good deal. And the sense of 'community' suffers.

They tried to sell it for £525 initially; sold now for £505 delivered. Has throughput lots of other kit on there and offers a "range of cartridges". Seems like a dealer/speculator. Name and shame ?

Mike.

Please do name and shame. This kind of opportunistic behaviour is exactly what this forum should strongly discourage

The chap hasn't done anything wrong by buying the turntable from you, or selling it on for a profit.

HOWEVER, he is a dealer and has behaved as such, and should have declared that to the Wam. He should be paying the higher subscription, and also Wammers would be warned that they are dealing with a person whose livelihood depends on making a profit.

I don't agree that he should be publicly named, but the mods should be made aware that he is a dealer for future reference.

It wasn't a forum member or via any forum actually. Was a hififorsale.com respondant.

Was actually a nice guy and we chatted for a couple of hours about stuff but kept up a big 'I'm an enthusiast with lots of hifi' pretence. Just didn't let on that he was only out to re-sell..

To be honest I'm not actually that bothered as I set the price thinking I'd be able to sell it quicker and a high price like he got would take ages to sell on eBay anyway.. If he'd introduced himself as a dealer I still would have sold at the same price!

Would have just prefered that it had gone to someone on a forum who'd enjoy it and save themselves some money compared to some eBay prices.

Oddly though the guy didn't seem to know much about hifi, not having heard of quite a lot of kit, not like I do anyway. Makes me think I have a lot of knowledge that should be tapped into.

Just want to re-itterate that I'm not upset by it but want to point out that there are many bargains getting overlooked on these forums! Then again, people on hifi forums already have a lot of hifi so perhaps don't need any more..

I'd not thought that it would be assumed it was a forum member... I should have made clear it wasn't.

It was sold outside of the forum via hififorsale.com. And I also don't think the guy has done anything wrong in reselling it either.

But there are many bargains on these forums that get overlooked. I think there's a different price mindset on the forums compared to the wider world (perhaps for older, classic kit anyway).

Indeed, becuase I hadn't had any interest accross the forums, I'd assumed it was over priced or something or there wasn't a market for it.

In reality the forums weren't an accurate portrayal of the secondhand market at all.
