or at least hit eBay to buy one of the several million adaptors that will doubtless appear on the market.

Just noticed the date on the first post. Apologies if this is old news.

What a bunch of Cnuts, I'm glad I dont own one, but there must millions of people out there who have both. Are they not shooting themselves in the foot?. If I owned and iphone4, and could have spent up to a grand on a dock, I would be very reluctant to upgrade to a iphone5, and have to dump the dock.

Makes sense the current connecter is massive. Still not good as your previous accessories will be useless though.

Just goes to show the folly of trying to integrate short-lifetime gimmicky consumer gadgets into the hi-fi .... :P

Oh I don't know, the (once gimmicky but now redundant) cd player seems to have warm place in many peoples hearts, as did the compact cassette.

Interface connections. Hmmm, I remember a world of din plugs as defacto. Now....

What puzzles me is why you wouldn't try it out on the iPad first? They're much less likely to be docked so it would have been a useful litmus test. Provided an adaptor exists (and with AirPlay taking up more of the slack), it shouldn't be too much of an issue but if Apple damage the third party ecosystem too badly, that will hurt them long term.

The iPhone has always been ahead of the iPad in terms of tech (retina display, processor etc), doesn't look like this will change any time soon.

They'll be an adapter - they have lots of adapters (current dock to microUSB, Magsafe to Magsafe2, HDMI- to DVI, Displayport to MiniDisplayport etc), it'd be bad business to stop customers using their existing home peripherals (things like cases are different), the only thing will be the official adapter will be overpriced, as all their adapters are, but they'll quickly be cheap copies popping up everywhere.

The current dock has been in use for a very long time and it makes sense to miniaturise it, as this frees up physical space on the phone that can be used for other things. From the leaked parts, it appears they've used this new space to place the headphone jack at the bottom (like the iPods) and use the consequently freed space at the top for something else.

Yea the prospect of wireless connections with speaker boxes like the Sono's boxes, or even the prospect of the Apple tv box makes this an non issue for anyone on the curve, but surely the likes of Apple micro USB to 30 pin adapters are going to be all over the place, i picked up one of these a while back for a more universal charger around the house as my wife i an iphone hater/android lover!
