new camera to replace olympus c7000

5 posts in this topic

I have had an Olympus C7000 zoom for about 5 years or so. £130 refurbished off ebay.

The wife ,while drunk, decided to throw it in the air and forgot to catch it.

The zoom was fully out and and now won't retract, all it does is whine and twitch.

Is it worth repairing? Jessops have quoted her "about £80 depending on" etc.

If not, what can anyone sugest as a replacement?

I have used the Olympus for holiday snaps, weddings, indoors, landscape, macro and have no complaints

about any pictures I have taken with it.

Recently borrowed my dads Hitachi hdc651e, I know it's way cheaper but, ugh! gave it him back.

Any suggestions?

IME £80 is about what they charge just to look. If its bent (which it sounds as though it is, then you'll be better buying a new one).

Things have moved on a bit since the Olympus, not least cost, but if you have £200 ish nearly anything from Canon, Panasonic or Sony will do at least as well and probably a bit better.

If you post a budget, I (we) can be more model specific, but this group test

contains some excellent cameras that do 'everything'.:)

Hi, I too have a C70/C7000 and my wife dropped it and the lcd broke (must be a common theme with this camera, wives and accidents!). If the lcd is still intact I would be interested in buying the camera off you. Regards, TK, Dublin.
