An Introduction to...... Da Funk.

67 posts in this topic

OK now for the music that all of us clubbers have to be thankful for, its the grandaddy of all things Club, from Disco to Drum 'n' Bass through Hip Hop, House, Techno and beyond. Funk music came about at the end of the 60's melding Soul, Jazz & R 'n' B into a one style that pushed Rhythm to the forefront and got us all fired up to shake our thang on the dancefloors. Its a style that has an energy and raw spontaneous feel to it with complex rhythms that makes you feel anything is possible. I'd like to keep as close to the core Funk style but of course other styles are welcome in moderation though I think Jazz Funk, P-Funk and the like are cool but not Disco, House etc I'll be doing separate threads for those.

Some of my funkiest albums:

Here's the GFOS performing the title track at the Rumble in the Jungle. Walks on stage, and within ten seconds, he pulls off the funkiest moves ever seen, at 0.49-0.55:

One of my favourite albums of any kind, Sly & the Family Stone's 'There's A Riot Goin' On':

Just say no, kids:

And, some gems on this one from last year, most of them getting an official re-release for the first time:

From the above, this awesome Arthur Monday 45 apparently sells for a couple of thousand these days:
