Modding Kef 105 speakers

3 posts in this topic

Have a pair of kef 105 mk1 speakers they are working fine with original crossovers with protection circuit and facility to select power rating of amp used. I cant help thinking they would sound better with a 'simplified' crossover without protection circuit and amp power selection. Would like to here from anybody with experience of these speakers and modding them.

I can't say I have experience but I did once meet a guy who said when he had some he extended the connecting cable to the head and placed them seperately on stands. He said it vastly improved imaging.. Perhaps a stand that goes over the top of the bass section could be constructed? Or stand them on a heavy slab of rock of some kind that sits on top with some kind of rubber or neoprene decoupling..?

Somewhere, I think on www.diyaudio.com or www.hifiloudspeakers.info there was posted up an original circuit diagram for a low-level crossover for making an active system - a KEF project that never came to light.
