We haven't any now in the immediate vicinity; all the specialist ones in Leeds have gone and Manchester's best (Forsythe's) have ridiculous prices which are a joke. So yes, it's good to browse and get ideas, but I'd never buy in one anymore - unless it had a good used section as some do now. Cob Records in Porthmadog, where I go regularly, is excellent in this respect, although stock levels are variable.

Yes Banks is still pretty good - actually very much like Forsythe's in being a big music shop that sells all sorts of instruments, pianos, sheet music, and a pretty comprehensive CD dept. though again it's full price (and a bit)

You may be thinking of a second hand one on Micklegate that also sells vinyl, can't remember the name, not even sure if it still exists.

I was in Carlisle last summer and there was quite a good place opposite the Cathedral -again can't remember name but it sold books, coffee, and was generally a nice place to spend an hour or two.

Can't remember the name of the other one, either! I know they used a Blake image as their logo, though!

.

The Micklegate one was there last June when I was in York, though I can't remember the name. He had quite a stock of 2nd hand vinyl waiting to be sorted.

If you're in Rye, Sussex, there's the Old Grammar School record shop in the High Street, big well-organised stock of rock/jazz viny bu the classsical takes abit more sorting through !
