Turntable solution please!!

I would vote for the Technics as well. Built like a tank, cheap as chips especially if you buy s/hand (once I had sold the old arm on mine it cost me all of 90 quid including all the mods that came with it!), and a nice sturdy lid too. Oh yeah, sounds good too :)

I used a Technics SL1200 for 6/7 months with standard arm and a Goldring 1042 mm. I've it recently soldand boughta Rega Planar 3 - RB300 - Linn K5 cart. The Rega trounces all over the SL1200, I paid £100 for the Rega in mint condition. I'm still looking for a clean Philips GA312 for a retro turntable project to match my Quad system....

Your experience does not surprise me - I only said I was surprised it took so long to be recommended, as it is, very much, flavour of the moment.
