Anyone heard anything by this company . In particular the Ultimate S1 pre-amp. Cheers in advance though i suspect only those over the pond will be familiar :(

Yeah i 've read that but didn't really find it that informative . What i do like is thatthe pre-amp has been refined over a period of twenty odd years but on the surface looks very similar to the original.

Heard one at JJs place many moons ago,sounded pretty good to me,but was out of my league price wise.

If you subscribe to US mags (I do) then the CAT is a very familiar pre-amp .... lots of praise heaped on it over the years, and it's said to get better with each iteration. I've never heard or even seen it in the flesh, though.

A friend of mine has one. Bought it new 2 years ago.

Sounds pretty decent.

The problem with SL1 is that it does not have balanced in/outs, lacks remote, and the volume control steps are pretty large, which considering its high gain, may often be a problem.

I have had a couple of these. The best bit of the pre is the phonostage. I like it a lot it's worth a listen. The PSU is a bit of a pain as you cannot disconnect it from the pre, it weighs a ton and I always seem to get into a tangle.
